*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

It all comes down to design at the end of the day. It's safe to say that technology has reached crazy proportions internally. A decent dual core phone is suitable for most people in this day and age if it is programed properly.

Why on earth do we need anything more I don't understand. Every one has their own opinion but if you're into the latest and greatest and I assume everyone on this forum is, that's why we're here. The Z is using an older chipset than the HO, sure it has a 5" screen and is water proof, but tell me what use is the phone being waterproof, I don't take my phone to the swimming pool or use it in the shower or live in a Rainforest.

Design wise and materials used the HO is the better looking phone again this is my opinion and has a better chipset.

However practically everyone is waiting on the S4 which we know will be made out of plastic however Samsung will bring their own modifications on Touchwiz and other features such as a removable battery, sd slot which everyone would like.

Looks like unless Samsung just bring out a S4 which is akin to the Iphone 4S update wise then every man, woman and their dog will go out and buy the S4.

It comes down to what the user wants, what might be a inferior device to some, might not be for someone else.

I personally would still pick a one S/X/XL over a GS 3 any day for these reasons:

- software, more so due to the browser, camera and gallery (main usage those, and no apps can match them imo)
- design, build and perceived quality

Where as most people would pick the GS 3 over the one X etc. for these reasons:

- SD slot
- removable battery

Everything else is just as good, or weak in one area but better in another area i.e. screen (personal preference in the end, some love SAMOLED, others don't), camera, performance (with JB and great dual/quad chipsets and most importantly software optimisation, this isn't as much of a problem any more), battery life (X isn't great, but it gets people through a day of usage), audio (All are more or less the same)

QC issues, again all are just as bad as each other, the X suffers more hardware problems i.e. screen flex (which was fixed with new batches after a few months) but the GS 3 suffers more software problems i.e. sudden death, security issues.

CPU/GPU power is pretty much pointless now, GS 2, GN etc. are still more than good enough with JB running on them. Only thing they can do, is make them more power efficient and get them to produce less heat.

I also rather have qualcomm.

From everything we know of the GS 4 so far, the htc one is still appealing to me more due to these reasons:

- front speakers (a very unique feature imo)
- design, build and perceived quality
- software overall especially zoe/camera
- size, think 5" will be too big

SD slot and removable battery don't matter to me personally.

Only thing, which we know of the GS 4 that would tide me over is the SAMOLED screen.

When is the announcement going to be made? I'm need of a new phone. It's between:

- Samsung S4
- Nokia Luma 920
- Blackberry Z10

Fair play, tbh I like your latter choices but I would have put the HTC One and Sony Xperia Z above them as choices along with the S4, all the negative gossip about the HO and XZ are nit picking and examining the minutiae within the android field.

BB Z10 looks ace in the shops I've not heard much about it or the OS other than it is new and needs to do a lot of catching up, from my average Joe's perspective the NL920 seems to have loads of negative issues from my reading of that thread and XDA.

Fore me it's the above and:

- SAMOLED
- Much better Notification LED
- Much better dev community + Easier to root
- Extended battery if I wanted

No matter what, all my future phones will have to have SAMOLED screens, it's at a point now when even my plasma tv and IPS monitor annoy me with there not quite black blacks :(

Squarer design?

Thats the one thing that kills me with the Nexus 4 screen, now that it has fixed calibration its a really lovely display. But as much as I try to ignore it I just hate too see those fake blacks :(.

I didn't mean size dimensions, I meant curves as in relation to your squarer design comment! Those cases in the photo aren't a good indicator. S3 cases out there that look square due to their rubber thickness masking the actual S3 shape.

tbh I didn't really know what you meant and what your saying now :D

!

Okay, with the S3 you have cases that look square so you'd assume the phone going in them may well be square too. The pic you posted above of the cases looks like the phone could be square but it may well not be because those cases could be quite thick like some on the S3 are giving the square look.

I see what your saying there - got an example of a square S3 case?

And what's this bit supposed to mean 'Squarer = Note dimensions'? ;)

Well the note 2 is pretty square around the corners, much more compared to the S3. No, it's not 90 degree square but as far as phones go it's pretty square.

As for S3 cases, look at cases like these, they hide the curvy corners of the S3.

Unfortunately Samsung don't make any other good phones aside from their flagship devices :( Either have crappy specs or/and crappy support and/or with poor support.

No doubt they will bring a "mini" out but it will be similar to the GS 3 mini i.e. the above.

And unfortunately htc have taken the same attitude by the looks of it, well they say that they aren't bringing anything else out but we know what they are like

Find my one S (4.3") too small now, more so the wideness of the screen, can happily use any screen size as long as the phone feels smaller than what it really is and is comfortable in the hand like the GS 3, couldn't go any bigger than 5" max, not "so much" because of the feel in the hand, but due to how uncomfortable they are in the pockets (baggy jeans before anyone mentions skinny jeans! :p) and feeling like a right idiot holding it to my face :p
