*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

goodness me chill out! I said I "think" you're wrong and you clearly "think" I'm wrong.. thats what opinions are!

Aren't we due to call each other nazis or something soon?

Anyway, chill, I never said you weren't entitled to your opinions and one persons experience of something is often entirely different to anothers.

I guess the area where I "think" you're wrong and I reckon I can back it up is all the longing for a different design on the S4 and saying "people want" etc like it's a fact when it clearly isn't, it's the 2nd best selling smartphone in the world (I guess? unless something like a cheap ass Asha sneaks in for volume) so what people want is very obviously the S3, you couldn't have something fundamentally flawed that was that successful.

I am perfectly chilled out, if you think that is me being angry/****ed well I would hate to think what you would think when I really am :p

I don't think you are wrong and I don't think I am right, there are things, which you stated that are wrong though i.e. the one S battery life etc. as that can be easily backed up with hard evidence :p

The design, software etc. will always be preference and in the end no matter what someone says that doesn't mean that they are either right or wrong, however, when the majority agree with something then you could say that you are right or wrong, if you know what I mean :p Nearly every review site wasn't impressed with the design of the GS 3, thought that Samsung could have done so much more and felt that it was lacking in that area big time compared to the X and other phones. Heck if the sites thought the design was good then why would they be writing all these articles on the design and saying that they hope Samsung do something different/better.

If you were to put the GS 3 one X/S, iphone 5, nexus 4, xperia Z all side by side and got a large group of people to choose which they thought looked the best in terms of design, not what is the better phone for hardware etc.. Where do you think the GS 3 would come? Personally I think it would be last. Actually iirc quite a few sites did a survey on who makes the best looking device and Samsung were always one of the bottom, here is one:

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Who-designs-the-best-looking-smartphones_id39949

Plus the only thing that people seem to be really wanting from the GS 4 here and on other sites is a better design.

Just because it is the 2nd best selling phone doesn't mean that it has the best or a good design, it just means that having a good design is not a deal breaker, which for like 80-90% of people, it isn't.

I would like a completely different/fresh design of the GS 4, however, it isn't "necessary" as they can improve upon the GS 3 design to make a good design i.e. the stuff I mentioned in my previous posts:

- all capacitive buttons
- less rounded corners or at least make the top look the same
- better design of the camera/flash/speaker area
- different plastic finish

a lot were complaining about s2.. and that was just a simple glossy finish :) s3 has a nasty finish i really don't like it but :) but the feel of the phone is fine! feels solid in hand which is what i want

I like the look of the GS 2 a lot (less so now, still much better than the gs 3 imo though), is minimal/clean looking and the all black front looks ace when the screen was of or/and you had a black background set up like mrk's.

IIRC was the main thing that people hated about it not the feel/perceived quality of the phone rather than the design? Although do remember quite a few hating the glossy plastic.

the thing is my s2 is really a solid device, the housing etc feels tough kinda like a really high grade plastic, the only "cheap-ish" part is the battery cover and that is only when tapping it :) in hand it feels life.. so does s3

Yep, looking more likely. Which is good because I prefer the new shape to the S3.

It's squarer and I like where the speaker is placed, looks more like a Note 2 than the S3.

I just hope that they don't make it cheap looking, as long it's ergonomic at 4.99" unlike the square, box feeling of the Z.

The camera sensor is huge, and as long as it takes decent pictures as good as the S3 which is no slouch, it'll be a good all rounder.

The pictures that have leaked the S4 will be similar in shape however as it's a dual sim phone I doubt it'll be as thick, probably slimmer.

I guess most of the plastic haters have never held a plastic phone in their hands (;)) or just prefer to hold a cold slab in their hands. :p Still, each to their own.

Apple fans smugly declare that the build quality of Samsung's plastic phones is inferior to their iPhones, but if Samsung switched to aluminium the sweepstakes on how long it'd take for the iCrew to start screaming angrily about "evil Samsung's heinous rip-off" would have to be sold in nanoseconds.

Ain't nothing wrong with either material for a build. Aluminium is more durable; plastic allows a larger phone at the same weight. Six and two threes.

After looking at the leaked S4 Images and the S3 for a while I do see differences. As an S2 owner I was hoping a revert to that design so was initially disappointed to see a seemingly S3 clone for the S4 but after a while I realised the 4 actually looks like a halfway house between the two....

S2, S4 & S3 respectively

So whilst it's not square like the S2 was, it's not as round a the S3 was either. On the S4 the sides look straight, only the top and bottom seem to have the constant curve and even those look less severe on that on the S3 which also has rounded (or rather bowed) sides as well.

By main issue now (if the leaked video is to be believed) is the tri-colour, black on the front, chrome on the sides and brushed aluminium on the back, I'd rather have an entirely black unit.

I thought the S3 was built extremely well, the plastics didn't make a sound and yes it looked like a fisher price toy, it was still very durable. The plastic just put me off for some reason and why I had to put it in a case to cover it up. (Just a matter of taste)

Watch a glass phone smash to pieces if it ever fell on the floor, a plastic phone wouldn't be damaged as much in a similar drop. I'm very mindful of the N4 and its glass back and treat it with more care then usual (not that I throw my phones about!)

I wouldn't worry about my S3 as much because I knew it was durable and take all sorts of knocks and in my job which can at times be rough and tumble I need a phone that would be able to withstand the occasional knock or two.

You're right Apple fans would accuse Samsung of plagiarising if Samsung were to use materials that were similar to the ones used on the iphone. Samsung can't win if they used quality materials or continued with their plastic ways.

All they're interested in is getting a large volume of phones prepped and out for consumers to buy.

The latest projection is that Samsung will sell over 10 million S4 phones within the first month. Now that is incredible

And the weight difference. Not an hour ago I picked up my friends iPhone (4 I think) which is covered front and black with glass and I couldn't believe how heavy it was compared to my 'larger' S2. The funny thing was, despite my phone having a bigger surface area, it was the iPhone that made me think of of the 'brick' moniker just due to it's bulkiness.

Yeah, it is one of the most durable phones, you would have to be unlucky in order to break it!

Phones durability largely comes down to the design, not just what materials are used (obviously if a phone is made mainly out of glass then it will break no matter the design :p)/how well it is put together etc. for example, the gs 3 might be made of plastic but the glass on the front extends right to the edge so when dropped it is very likely to crack/break where as with the GS 2, it isn't.

Aluminium is extremely light too, iphone 5 112g, one S 119g. Anything over 150g is too heavy imo.

So far I am liking the GS 4 design a lot more than the GS 3 (PS that pic above, the GS 3 has a case on! :p), now it will just come down to the finish of the plastic, if they go with that hyperglaze finish of the gs 3 and only have blue/white to choose from again then I will be extremely disappointed.

Weight is important as well, in many ways a heavy phone can mean premium but also be a hindrance and it's a matter of a person's taste. I remember walking out of my house and half way down the street and stopping to check to see if my S3 was in my pocket and it was! Imagine a 4.8" phone in my pocket and I couldn't even tell that it there! Now that's some feat by Samsung's design team! It's still a fisher price looking phone though! ;)

The S2 has some wonderful design cues and is my favourite phone that Samsung has made recently. Not only because it was designed very well and looked the business but it was a very capable phone and put Samsung on its current path to success. Try as I might I'd always come back to the S2 I remember selling it several times but nothing really came close to it. :)

What time is the event GMT? and link to a stream yet aynone ?

You'll have to stay up late...11pm! No links available yet but I'm sure that the usual tech sites will be covering the event.
