*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

really hope that's not the final design.. If that's the case then i'll hang onto the S3 a bit longer and buy the HTC One.

It's not a bad design (apart from the tacky looking back) but too similar for me. Nice specs though.

Looks like every other Samsung phone released over the last year to me...

That 6W+ Exynos 5410 could melt the phone like a knife through butter, props to Samsung for sticking it in this early! :D Let's hope ARMs big.little software is up to the job.

(I still think a quad core version could be announced with the GS4, two A15s and two A7s running together at 1.8Ghz)

Funny how Samsung are expected to have wildly different designs for every phone they realse whilst Apple pumped out the same phone 3 years running (Iphone, 3G & 3GS) design-wise and then it becomes "why change a winning formula"....

So Apple have released 6 phones since 2007 and only changed the design once (between the 3GS and the 4) and all they did was remove the rounded chrome surround. The iPhone 5 is literally just a bigger iPhone 4 design-wise. (I'm also in no doubt the larger screen on the 5 is due to the galaxy S2's success, I believe without that 'game-changing' phone from Samsung the current Apple smart phone would still be in an iPhone 4 chassis).

Yet Apple are supposed design geniuses and Samsung are rubbish because each phone doesn't look drastically different to the last?

Besides, I would say the Galaxy S series have been much more changeable than the iPhone. The S2 looks nothing like the S1, the S3 is in contrast to the S2 and for me the S4 isn't as S3-cloned as others are making it, it looks like a cross between an S2 and S3 designs to me (for example the chrome lip surrounds from the S2 are on the S4 and it is not as 'round' as the S3 was, it's still got curves and isn't perfectly square like the S2 but it's closer than the S3 was).

The original iPhone > 3G was quite a difference, as was the 3G > 4.

The 4 > 5 is the same outline but it's quite different overall in my opinion as well.

Also, Sarge is probably proclaiming disappointment more than a lack of change. :p

guys bit of a premature question.

if this is launched tonight how soon will it be in shops to purchase and where am i likely to get it cheap sim free.

thanks

it will be announced today, launched mid april(at a guess) and three at a guess(looking at xperia z prices)

I actually think the S4 looks like a noticeable change from the S3 all for the better too. They have revamped pretty much everything I hated about the original, and made it look really premium too.

I actually am starting to think they have done a pretty good job, still a shame that touchwiz UI is horrid but that is fixable.

Still wouldn't buy one though as latest version of Android is what ticks my biggest box, which still makes the Nexus 4 my only option. :)

2-4 weeks, £480-550. At a guess. I doubt anywhere will sell it 'cheap'.

yeah cause the biggest mistake was converting to IOS, Iphone 5.
i should have stuck with my s2, android. I really regret it, i am just itching to sell my iphone 5 and get the s4.

I have looked at other similar high end phones and three sell the xperia z for £449.99, so i would assume the s4 will come in at a similar price or cheap because of competition from the xperia z and htc one.

i think i might go down this road and just buy a cheap unlock code off ebay. probably cheaper than sim free.

Really? Look at the S3 and leaked S4 photos, read the comments of people moaning because "it just looks like the S3" and tell me that the 3GS (which is two designs/years after the original remember) is remarkably different to the original or more different than the S4 to the S3 is...

top = iPhone 1, bottom = 3GS

The front is exactly the same, no changes whatsoever. All they done with the back is make is a solid colour and glossy on the 3GS, even the camera positioning is exactly the same.

, as was the 3G > 4.

I conceded the design changed for the 4, but as I said that's one major design change in 6 years and 6 phones.

The 4 > 5 is the same outline but it's quite different overall in my opinion as well.

It's just bigger and if being a bit bigger isn't considered a design change by people looking at the S4 and comparing it to the S3 then it shouldn't count for Apple either if we're being fair.

OK so they've also moved the front facing camera as well, other than that is is exactly the same feel.

Also, Sarge is probably proclaiming disappointment more than a lack of change. :p

I realise that, I just don't get why Samsung customers expect each phone to be remarkably different design-wise to the last whilst Apple customers rarely moan about the same thing even though (IMO) the iphone design has only really changed once in 6 years.

The front is very similar but the back surely counts as well and that changed quite a bit on the 5. Glass to aluminium etc.

I don't see much issue with the design remaining similar, 99% of the 'complaining' is people who want Samsung to drop the plastic stuff and use an aluminium unibody or similar, like HTC for example.
