*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

I would be surprised if the leak that we have seen so far doesn't turn out to be the GS 4 design etc.

As pointed out,

- it has the same pattern look as the teaser poster
- similar design language to the other galaxy phones (remember Samsung want their phones to be distinguishable, if they came out with a completely different designed phone, how are people going to recognise the "galaxy" phone) HTC change their design every single time and by doing this they are shooting themselves in the foot, there was no reason to change from the one S/X design, all they had to do was improve upon it, much like what apple do with their iphones, however, I think you can keep rehashing the design too much and if apple don't change it considerably for the 5s or 6 then people are going to get very bored/fed up with it
- Look at all of Samsung's recent phones/tablets here, all have the exact same design language
- seems like an awful lot of effort to go to, iirc was it not just leaked renders/mock ups of the GS 3, no actual full on photos of the device?

I personally like the improved design quite a bit, got rid of the two things I hated the most about the gs 3:

- brushed finish
- too rounded corners

the home button looks better too.

Just the back that I don't like.

TBH I think I prefer the front design of the GS 4 to the front design of the htc one, the htc one is largely ruined by that awful htc logo in the middle of the 2 buttons at the bottom and the front speakers do look odd, but the functionality/usefulness of that feature outweighs the design/look of them imo.

Of course I still need to see them in the "flesh" though......

Hmm, the display looks dull/dark in those comparisons, although it looks great for detail.

Link from that site, review and better look at it:

You've got to look at it from their point of view why would they want to drastically change the look of one of the best selling phones on the planet and take the risk it flopped when they can just pump out something pretty similar looking but with better specs.

Yes I guess so, Android has never known such a popular device literally rivaling the iphone. We've been spoilt by manufacturers bringing out different designs for Android phones, there's never been a "series" which has been a best seller.

So if Samsung go along the lines of if it if it ain't broke why fix it? I don't blame them.

Camera lens looks massive:

Camera due to the industry to promote the development of the hardware, the Samsung Galaxy S4 also use 13 million pixels Sony Exmos lens , this lens is the main advantage the stacked structure "(stacked structure) of the image sensor . The biggest benefit is that you can take pictures more specific details of the capture sharper, clearer images, and in low light conditions, and can be discharged. Specific in camera review there will be instructions.

Easy to flash, crap to develop ASOP ROMs and things like that for due to the closed source nature of the exynos code.
Samsung do have their own Dev channels and have released the s3 source code. it's up to custom rom devs to make use of that!

Cyanogen mod won't ever support a lot of the deep down stuff Samsung put in just because they don't need or want to.

I prefer TW features now anyway, put Nova on and you're laughing after a quick brush with a theme for the notification bar etc.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S4 enhance appearance is very obvious. Front panel of the design is very beautiful, the class metal frame added more extra points, the corner treatment is also very coordinated, and the enhancement of the material and the design carefully become the Samsung Galaxy series the highest level of the past few years, people will be able to feel the first time to use the "premium" and a sense of quality. But personal Quedui Samsung always use plastic veiled criticisms.
A phone do not see the meaning of the internal system design has become the only criteria in the current major manufacturers are in the heart to improve the design level and generally use better materials, Samsung has insisted its unique plastic wind, in order to cut costs or increase production levels this environment, the Samsung Galaxy S4 always only be a flagship product, and can not do the work of art.

I thought they'd released parts of the source but it wasn't the parts the CM devs really needed to fix their ROMs?
I might be completely off the mark, I've never delved too deeply into the whole thing as I stick to TW ROMs

Dev wise there's no shortage of ROMS, you just have to look at the S3 / S3 LTE scene all the usual suspects are there except for Cyanogen.

No doubt the S4 will have the same development.

Look at touchwiz:

In addition, as the Samsung Galaxy S4 S3's based on a lot of user-friendly features, such as Smart scroll (eye rolling next page), Smart of stay (intelligent identification), the Smart Pause (Smart Pause) and Smart rotation (intelligent rotary screen) ( my device - display - smart screen to find), and this we will text humane operation focus mentioned, as well as a simple demonstration.

Smart "scroll eyeballs rolling flip Smart stay based eye recognition technology features an upgraded innovation. Basis through the eye recognition technology automatically maintain the brightness of the screen can scroll up and down web browser and view messages, users can speed setting screen option in the settings.

Audio, in addition to support for traditional audio file (such as MP3 , WMA, M4A, AAC, etc.) also increased flac lossless music playback support, but it does not support lossless APE format, which is currently the most intelligent mobile phone characteristics. Music player interface, did not make much changes to facilitate the user's operating habits, As for the sound quality is fairly good performance, in line with Samsung's level, but on playback, Samsung added the SoundAlive set to help Enhanced sound effects, but the overall effect is both external speakers or headphones personally think that compared to the S3 have a lot of enhancements.

If the eight-core advantage in what? That is undoubtedly the video part. Samsung Galaxy S4 can be said in the video playback is very good, basically spike full-format 1080P MP4 , AVI, MOV and no more daily multi-format RMVB, FLV, MKV perfect support basically everyday life has absolutely not a problem. Does it mean that the eight-core processor has been flawless? Actually the 720P MKV and 1080P RMVB there will still be some delays and Caton, but taking into account the actual use has been perfectly adequate, this phone enthusiasts reference purposes only.

More on the camera:

13 million pixels is mainstream tone of this year's flagship phone , the Samsung Galaxy S4 is also natural to use 13 million pixels the Sony Exmos lens , this lens has been applied before in many mobile phones , such as OPPO Find5, Sony Xperia Z (L36h) and so on. Its main advantage is that it "stack structure" (stacked structure) of the image sensor . Straightforward point that the biggest benefit is that you can capture clearer details and specific sharper, clearer images, and in low light conditions, and can be discharged.

Although there are 13 million pixels, but apparently Samsung more willing mind spending the camera software and user experience, and this part does make S4 appears to be a different kind of different, providing a multi-camera mode, including the self-timer beauty, night shooting sports mode, panorama shooting mobile mode, the camera scene is very rich, and transferred out of the way is very innovative and beautiful. The addition can be open at the same time around the camera become the biggest bright spot of the Samsung Galaxy S4 current smartphone is the first.

As can be seen in a simple comparison and iPhone5 and Sony Xperia Z, S4 With 13 million pixels in the detail has to be to win the 8,000,000 pixels iPhone5, but color is still typically too bright too brilliant. This color also shows white balance performance somewhat stable, iPhone5 is 800 million pixels, but the color reproduction is still the most authentic and accurate, S4 in some scenes, some partial white, which seems to Samsung consistent ills.

Good performance for low-light and night scene imaging also allows us to the Galaxy S4 has another level view. In low-light conditions, Galaxy S4 performance scores some beyond my expectations, the imaging screen is very bright, although inevitably lost most of the details, however, such results compared to the S3 has been greatly improved, of course, restore true color on the iPhone is more dominant.
Summary: Samsung Galaxy S4 in the camera, speaking compared to other mobile phones, can be said to have a certain advantage, a draw between daytime imaging and several major flagship machine, slightly prominent on the night taking pictures, in both imaging details or imaging quality both worthy of recognition. However, in terms of the quality of the leaflets proofs, white balance or still needs to be strengthened, compared to 8,000,000 pixels iPhone5 in color restore authenticity point of view, or to continue to optimize the software.

This thread has certainly come to life :D

I'm in a different boat to a lot of people, I have never owned an android phone of any kind, and barely even used one. I was going to stick with BB due to the physical keyboard, but this phone excites me way more than Blackberry ever has!

Hah, that has to be real. Far too much for a fake.

I really rather like it, I think the sides and general subtle shape adjustments have made quite a difference.

I wonder what the colours will be, not keen on the silvery white back.

Sammobile reported that the S4 will be available in Black and White.

Don't get me wrong the phone does look good, but having come from a S3 I would like something different and this is just too similar for me, even though there's way loads of power under the hood.

It'll sell by the bucket loads and I'll most likely cave into my phone addiction and end up getting one. :p

As I said, if something is better or I like something more than said other phone regardless of brand, I will admit it! :p :)

HTC really messed up on the front with the buttons and logo on the one (which I said long before the GS 4 showed up! :p);

- Much prefer the front to the GS 3, but to the GS 4 and GS 2, xperia Z, oppo 5, no

- However, I still much prefer the front design of the one S/X to all the above with the exception of the oppo 5

Regarding the back design, this is how I would rate them:

1. HTC one
2. one S/X (despite the camera lens being like a camel's hump on the X)
3. nexus 4, xperia Z, oppo 5
4. GS 4
5. GS 3, GS 2

The GS 4 definitely looks a lot more premium  Very much like the sides.

It is just a shame that Samsung have gone and improved the design of the phone itself but have now butchered touchwiz really badly (review site mentioned about it being similar to the retail version), I thought HTC was having a laugh with the sense V4+ update regarding the battery chart but Samsung are just taking the **** with the new touchwiz overall (imo)

My only other real concern with the GS 4 going by that review is the screen, doesn't look like it has been calibrated very well at all (too dull, poor white levels etc.)......however, they are running a early software version and it is a prototype so there is a "very good" chance it could improve.........

It's similar design wise, but it has been notably improved in every other area by the look of it.

I'd be willing to put money on you getting one - as long as there aren't any major flaws. Your train of thought is likely similar to mine in this sort of situation.

I suspect Engadget and The Verge etc all have their review GS4 handsets already, when the S3 event started last year, a load of content suddenly appeared right away on those sites. I suspect the same will happen again.

I've never said otherwise, I've even seen some slight praise for the iPhone designs before. :p

Yay, I love reviews on based on pre production hardware and beta software!

Pfft, the HOS gets 1770 in Vellamo :D Someone should wake up those A15 cores! (Probably turn off super quick leaving the A7s doing the bulk)
