Whats the quickest way to unroot an S4? I'm currently on 4.2.2 rooted and barely use root features, I'm wanting to upgrade to KitKat and just not sure of the best way to go about it, I was hoping a software update would be like on IOS where it jst overwrites your jailbreak/root, but doesn't seem to be the same! :(

I'm pretty sure a factory reset would do it, alternatively do a bit of reading on XDA, you'll easily find a pre rooted version of the latest ROM.

In fact if you find the right software (make sure you've picked the right network/country) and then flash through Odin, again, have a read about that, it's very easy.

EDIT: Here you go, have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477

I finally unrooted my phone, installed the KNOX boot loader, the three 4.4.2 image and latest radio and what a little gem my phone now is. Ive been fed up with developers making roms which either dont work or have bugs which effect the fun of the phone.

Here what I did to unroot and go back to stock:

*Download image of your choice from SAM mobile.
*Boot into download and start odin 3.09
>*Put the image in the BL section and upload it with reboot unticked.
*boot back into download and apply the new boot loader. (If your phone has KNOX 0x0 here then you dont need to do this).

*Restart and your phone should come back factory fresh.

Sorry if its a bit rushed Im just writing this from memory.

Thanks guys, meh I was trying to avoid Factory resetting, just was hoping to unroot then update, the phone isn't slow and doesn't really need a restore, hmm!

No you'll need a full wipe as you're basically reinstalling the software.

And with that in mind, why don't you have a go with a better ROM? Nothing to lose!

Although I guess Samsung shoehorned some sort of backup software into touchwiz? That would probably do the trick, back up to an SD card, do the full wipe and then restore it, I did that with my Z2 when I unlocked the bootloader as again that wipes everything.

Quite surprised how effective it was.. put back call logs, app data, texts etc etc.

I've had danvdh's GPE edition on mine for a month or two now, and have just updated it to 4.4.4

Decided this time to go for the vanilla Android with the Google Experience Launcher, rather than the version with Nova, as to be honest, I never use the full customisation power of 3rd party launchers.

Really sorry for not reading the whole thrad but need a quickish reply is possible,

I have a second hand S4 on the way, locked to "3"

I intend to unlock and Root it. Not Rooted a mobile since my Galaxy Note... which I still use now.

Anyway, questions.

1) Does it matter if I Root before putting unlock code in, or should I do it the other way round?

2) Will rooting the S4 relock it, if so, will my unlock code (bought off an auction site...) simply work again to unlock it?

Thanks guys, for helping this born again noob. :)

Anyone ever used the Chinese 4000+mah battery's on eBay? Lifetime warranty one seller is saying and the extra battery sounds great however don't want to blow up my phone so feedback would be great.

Don't know about those ones but I have had a zero lemon for probably a year now, performance isn't as good as when I first got it but its pretty awesome.

Been listening to music all day:

Ahhh never mind.. how come you unrooted? I've just got root with towelroot but did test unrooting with supersu and re-rooted, i just use it for TitaniumRoot and freeze some bloat.
