Not really.... 12 month contract is the best bet ~150 over the sim free phone over the 12 months with ok data package

I'm on a 12 month sim only via 3 with AYCE data, £13 a month with 2000 text and 300 voice minutes. A phone upgrade works out around £250 or less in cash because given the sim only tariff price, I put a little extra aside for phone purchasing over those 12 months which means once I've sold my old phone I've not actually spent that much extra money that otherwise would have gone on the more expensive tariffs anyway had I not gone with 3 on a sim only.

Okay, the first sim free phone purchase is at full whack but if you have the cash then go for it I guess.

I won't ever be going 18 or 24 month contracts again.

Same here I'm done with 24/18 contacts.. 12 or sim free :) I haven't decided yet if I'm getting s4/z/one but simfree what I would prefer.

Have Samsung sacked all their designers now or something? The phone looks identical to the S3! Except it's a bit bigger

Well what do you expect it to look like a ****ing spaceship? Its a mobile phone lol there is only so much you can do to alter the shape of a mobile handheld device.

I am looking for unlimited 4G data allowance as EE had put up stupid expensive price! Get stuff!

3 Said they wont change the prices once they go 4G so it be really cheap to get unlimited Data there.

And personally the S4 being only a "bit bigger" while having a 5" 1080p screen, 2600mha battery is amazing feat. the iPhone 5 got major praise for going thinner while basically keeping the same hardware expect SoC and ram and Samsung has done more here. It is making it quiet hard to not get this phone as I really miss amoled screens.

S3 comes out - "It looks ugly! Why did they change the design?"

S4 comes out - "It looks the same as the S3! Why didn't they change the design?"

Well I mean surely that makes sense? If people didn't like the S3 design why would you expect that to change for the S4?

Personally I find the design better then the S3, it's clearly similar however the less rounded corners, better shaped home button, brushed metal rim, vastly reduced bezel size and improved finish (on the black one specifically, white still doesn't do it for me) all add up to make it a much better looking phone.

Maybe I'm in the minority who spots these small things that add up?

Not necessarily the same group of people. I was making that point that whatever Samsung did, a group of people would complain.

Can't agree more. I'm an S2 owner that did complain about the S3 design and whilst it's grown on me a bit since playing with a friend's one, I still don't love it. However, I think the S4 is more balanced and a big improvement. I'd even say it's the sweet spot between the better looks of a square design and the better ergonomics of a rounded one.

I wonder how the sales figures would shake out if contracts didn't exist? Personally I wouldn't drop £500 on a phone made out of plastic no matter how good the rest of it was!

These high end phones don't do much of any significance that can't be accomplished by something a lot cheaper so I want to see premium build quality and materials.

The HTC One and the iPhone 5 both have the material quality that you don't get on cheaper phones for cost reasons but the S1V just looks like a bigger ACE!!

Well it's not 'identical' and it's actually smaller... sooooo... :p

Ok,so they're not completely identical but there's not much difference between them :p

Watching a few of the after show hands on videos I've noticed a couple of things.

The screen is very resilient to reflections and finger prints, when they compared it to the nexus 4/iphone5/xz and the htc one.

The coating they used on the plastic makes it easy to wipe finger prints off.

If anyone has used or owned a black soft touch polycarbonate or dark coloured anodised aluminium phone knows how hard it is to remove oils from them.

What's the extra sensor on the front of the phone? Camera, proximity, light and something else?

I think there is enough reason to upgrade from the GS3, especially at the trade in prices. I'm glad they made the phone dimensions smaller though. I was getting worried the trend of high end Android phones was going to get bigger every time.
