*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

What's the extra sensor on the front of the phone? Camera, proximity, light and something else?

I think there is enough reason to upgrade from the GS3, especially at the trade in prices. I'm glad they made the phone dimensions smaller though. I was getting worried the trend of high end Android phones was going to get bigger every time.

I presume it's for temperature and humidity.

Watching a few of the after show hands on videos I've noticed a couple of things.

The screen is very resilient to reflections and finger prints, when they compared it to the nexus 4/iphone5/xz and the htc one.

The coating they used on the plastic makes it easy to wipe finger prints off.

If anyone has used or owned a black soft touch polycarbonate or dark coloured anodised aluminium phone knows how hard it is to remove oils from them.

You can't wipe off scratches and that was the S3's biggest problem with the back.

I've owned numerous touch screen phones and can't say I've ever worried about finger prints. Sounds like marketing fluff to me.

The back of the S3 didn't scratch easily, what on earth did you do to it.

It's still too big, it shouldn't be plastic, most of the actual "noticeable" upgrades are software based that will be released for the S3.

The sensors being at the very top of the phone look really awkward too, dunno why they moved their placement from the S3.

S2 owner here!!! S4 will be a nice upgrade when my contract ends in august!! It is just because though really!! The s2 is still an amazing phone and well supported on xda!!

I am really struggling to justify getting an S4. On its own it looks meh but compared to the One it looks awful and the new software features such as group play, air gesture or smart pause will never be used by me - ever. I have not had a galaxy before though (Using a Desire HD right now) so I have no first hand experience with them.

one thing that still baffles me is why phones are so expensive in relation to full size tablets, I really think these phone manufactures are taking us to the cleaners, their batteries are smaller, their screens are much smaller and the argument of miniaturised electronics don't really hold anymore.

so what is the reason, I personally think its economics rather than a manufacturing reason.

only need to decide if i should wait for note 3 or go S4.

I love that massive brilliant screen but that thing (like its predecessor, and like the HTC One too) will be way too big for me to hold comfortably! Unless voice control has progressed to a point where I can use the phone completely hands-free I'm going to need a device that I can pull out of my jacket pocket while I'm walking down the street and use one-handed without the fear of dropping it, and without the need for me to stop in my tracks, put down whatever else I'm holding, and use both hands to return a call or type a text.

I know it's a work of art but you shouldn't need a trestle to put it on!

Sorry, I know it's off-topic to this thread, but I suffer from gadget-lust as much as any nerd and I want the latest tech, and it's really frustrating that these days they ALL come in a form factor that I hate!

How small are your hands!? I've got small hands and have no problems with my S3 at all, using it one handed while walking isn't a problem.

A lot of people think the phone will be too big, but give it a try and you'll find it really isn't.

So i've read the Exynos 5 octa core SoC won't have LTE (which is the international version) - it is only the quad core Snapdragon 600 that will have LTE which is going to only be sold in North America.

Doesn't this mean that we in the UK won't get the LTE version of the Galaxy S4?

I think you're wrong on that iirc most of the UK carriers have confirmed it is lte

Just before everyone jumps the gun, the Octa core version probably will not be available at launch. Samsung has confirm production of the chip will only star in the middle Q2
