*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

I was really quite set on getting on of these phones, but wider reading tells me that battery life is likely to be too much of an issue. I used to have an HTC Desire HD, which has made me exceptionally wary about low battery life. Literally every single review mentions the battery life on the S6 as being average at best, poor at worst. This all seems odd with lots of people saying they get 4-5 hours screen on time, which is adequate for me, but there are plenty of people getting 3 to 3.5 hours, which is too low.

So either there's something on Android causing excessive drain (which seems possible but only as a contributory factor) or Samsung simply made the battery too small for the phone.

Depends on what time frame are we talking? Mine will easily see 4 hours over 2 days probably more like 6 over 1.

It won't upload the screen time but its currently 3hrs 20mins

I get about 3.5 from a day on mobile data, or 4.5 to 5 from a day on Wi-Fi. Most of my days are a mixture, so 4 seems about right.

I'd describe the battery life as 'average' (having had a Nexus 5 which was very poor, and a OnePlusOne which was good). It gets me through the day but not much more.

[edit] The above is based on 1 day. Like seemingly all phones on Lollipop the S6 has poor standby battery life, especially on mobile data. I reckon it would be dead after 48 hours on mobile data with no use at all.

Very interesting discovery so far that has made the rounds. Charging the S6 with a normal charger, say your old S5 for example, is providing a longer charge compared to a fast charge. Going to be buying a normal charger this week, but so far a fair few people have seen positive results from charging this way.

What sort of gains?!

Surely people with a wireless slower charger would have already noticed this difference?

From the looks of things, a considerable difference. I'll report back my findings.

Finally found some code also to stop my mediaserver battery hog, see below if you're having it also!

Open it in terminal app (requires root).

su

pm enable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver

Battery on this is kinda strange. I get 4-5 hours screen time easily. Yet if I use it for only an hour the battery seems to go down at a similar rate in terms of time, although the usage graph suggests otherwise. Thinking there's something going on in the background that shouldn't be, hopefully they fix it soon although it's still reasonable and easily lasts a day for me which is all I can ask for really!

Charging with a standard 2A charger or the one that came with it makes no difference to how long the battery lasts from what I've noticed, but I've not studied it or anything.

The instructions are a bit unclear. Would you mind explaining exactly what I need to do?

Which bit? Appops or the disable service?

If the latter, then download "My Android Tools", then under "Service", go to "System", then under "Google Play Services", search for "SystemUpdateService", make sure that is enabled. Now go to "Broadcast Receiver" on the left hand side menu, then again go to "Google Play Services", and search "Update", then remove the following ticks -

SecretCodeReceiver
ActiveCodeReceiver
Receiver

Hope this makes sense.

Anyone rooted yet? Got mine today and rooted with ease using the PingPong root method :)

Also was able to get rid of the stupid S Finder, quick connect and brightness bar

(probably way to late to the party with this lot but meh)
