Wow. Monthly contracts are still going up and up. I'm actually due an upgrade with EE on the 20th March, but wouldn't really want to go higher than the £44 a month I'm already paying them.

The Samsung Upgrade plan is an interesting idea, if it's around £650 all in but you get to swap to an S8 next year when it happens. Surely that's the way to go?

Some quick Maths on the Edge. you'd pay £395 for the first 12 months and then upgrade to the S8 Edge next year. It starts a new 24 month agreement though and I assume they can up the price.

If you decide to ride it out, you would pay £726 for the S7 Edge by the end of the second year, which I guess over 24 months isn't crazy, but it certainly is far more than I've ever paid for a SIM free phone.

I know it's saying improved battery, but is the battery replaceable? And have they said what the maximum capacity is for a micro-SD card?

Trouble is it seems you have to send the S7 back to them if you upgrade to the S8 which means it is £395 + say a £15/month sim plan so £575 for the year, which seems like an awful lot to me !!

In contrast you'd probably drop about £200 - £250 by trading in an iPhone every year ( plus sim costs )

It will use both and that will depend on region.
