**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

****** set of Benchmarks, the LG is not even part of half off them. The S820 won 2 and lost 1, but too be honest I think its all about power management now everything is crazy fast.

Yeah, not really bothered about the results, just posted that because of the comments about heat.

Both chips will be fast that's a given, I'm more interested in the power saving features. Which one lasts more with battery will be an interesting one to read up once the reviews start coming in.

Why do people care so much about benchmarks? Fact of reality is you are hardly going to notice it much in this day and age in real world usage.

Came across this when I was searching for the differnce between them:

The bit near the bottom is slightly concerning:

Personally don't think it's concerning at all... The Xperia Z5 uses heatpipes and I've yet to see any heat related issues at all from the SD810 SoC inside it other than the expected getting warm/hot when streaming heavy bandwidth content over 4G or WLAN (480Mbps).

The heatpipes are designed to stop the phone exceeding thermal thresholds, of course t will get warm/hot during heavy workloads. Who in their right mind is constantly running heavy workloads on their phones anyway?

Yeah I'm sure you're right, and for my usage I can't imagine it being an issue anyway. Just thought it was interesting as there was a lot of fuss about the 810 and I thought this was going to be better (with regards to the 820, though I realise that's not what we are getting anyway). Not that the 810 would really be an issue for me.

With the Galaxy S7, Samsung is taking a rather bold step with a move from the 16MP, 16:9 aspect ratio sensor of the Galaxy S6 to a 12MP 4:3 aspect ratio sensor in the Galaxy S7.

I hated the 4:3 aspect ratio sensor that one my sony compact camera's had so much that it made me go out and buy a new camera....

Who would want to take 4:3 ratio pictures in this day & age with just about every TV/Monitor/phone/etc screen ratio being 16:9 or wider...

I'm interested as to why so many people are ordering the Edge (or want to order the Edge but are worried that it will be too big).

Wasn't the big drawback of the S6 Edge/Edge+ that it was uncomfortable to hold?

i think thats the way it's going, the 950/xt also as 4:3 aspect ratio for 20MP

Phones nearly always use a 4:3 sensor. No big deal just select 16:9 mode in the settings. Obviously it's a crop but the difference in quality is negligible.

The design is now improved on the edge with curved back and smoother sides. I used my sisters S6 Edge and it wasn't really that uncomfortable anyway.

Bigger battery is my reason. Regarding the actual size, coming from a nexus 6p, it's small!

I was a huge Android fan had the Hero, Desire HD and Nexus 5. Kit Kat or Lollipop completely decimated the battery life on my Nexus 5 so I picked up an iPhone 6.

Can't see me going back, Android tends to get apps and games later than iOS but the main reason is OS updates, even on Nexus devices you can wait anywhere up to 1-2 months before Google deem it your turn to get the update.

For Samsung and others it's even worse, my brother and sister both have the S6 and neither can download the Marshmallow update despite it apparently being available, they have unbranded phones.

It also took around 6 months after Marshmallow released for Samsung to even release it in the first place.
