**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

I was a huge Android fan had the Hero, Desire HD and Nexus 5. Kit Kat or Lollipop completely decimated the battery life on my Nexus 5 so I picked up an iPhone 6.

Can't see me going back, Android tends to get apps and games later than iOS but the main reason is OS updates, even on Nexus devices you can wait anywhere up to 1-2 months before Google deem it your turn to get the update.

For Samsung and others it's even worse, my brother and sister both have the S6 and neither can download the Marshmallow update despite it apparently being available, they have unbranded phones.

It also took around 6 months after Marshmallow released for Samsung to even release it in the first place.

I agree about the battery and updates.

That said I would never go back to iOS, everything is just such a pain all the way to itunes. I find the end user experience much more frustrating. Android is a breath of fresh air. I own the S6 and have had no problems with updates. Been on the marshmallow beta which was fine.

I agree with above, have a S6 and never had problems with updates and as stated Marshmallow is fantastic. How this phone should have been from day 1 imo.

I tried a 6S and just don't like it, last device I had was a 5 and nothing has changed really, hate the fact when you in the camera you can't change the modes in it. You have to go in the main settings, come on its 2016. I found 3d touch to be a gimmick I stopped using after a few days.

anyway this is about the S7 not IPhone so lets stay on topic.

due to the curved back does it lay on the table flat still?

Just the sides are curved so it will still lay fast.

Apple has its downsides too. But thanks for sharing.

If your family wanted fast OS updates they should have got a Nexus. Plus so much of the OS is now updated through the play stores it's not even a big deal.

I'm not really that bothered about slow updates these days, similar to the hardware side of things with mobiles I don't think its progressing as quickly as it used to so I don't feel I'm massively missing out. I don't have MM yet as I'm on a Nexus 4 and yeah it'll be nice to have but not having it hasn't really been an issue for me.

The sensor is 4:3, this is why the native res is at that aspect ratio. Again, this is the same as other phones. The Z3/Z5 are also 4:3 at 23MP, but the 16:9 aspect ratio is only available at 20MP, 8MP etc in the settings. The standard dslr sensor aspect ratio is 2:3.

There is no difference in image quality, just image resolution is a bit smaller. Which is no problem at all... The S7 will be walking all over other phone cameras regardless of resolution or aspect ratio used.

I keep checking mine and no Marshmellow yet, still on Lollipop. But having played around with an S7 in the shop, speedwise, mine responds every bit as fast. As far as battery life, never been a problem to me, and with the fast charger, which I presume the S7 will have, it's a breeze to get the phone back to 100% in almost [hyperbole]the blink of an eye[/hyperbole]

Yup it does, Samsung said the S7 charges faster than the S6, which is neat as the battery is bigger. It utilises the 15w wireless charging standard too whereas the S6 only supports 5w. So wirelesss charging will be as fast as wired in most cases when a 15w base is used or the Samsung Fast charger with a QC2. 0 mains USB block.

I believe the S7 comes with such a block as standard now.

If you have an S6 there is really no need to upgrade until S8, unless you really think a better camera, battery and SD card are worth it.

In real terms this isn't a big deal for normal use.

Not as fast as wired as wireless is not 100% efficient compared to wired charging. But plenty fast enough.

Plus wired is QC3.0 whereas wireless is QC2.0?

Maybe a silly question, but i'm assuming we'll be able to default to 16:9 ratio and not have to change every time we enter the camera?

Hence why the 15w wpc standard came out not too long ago, to be as fast as wired. I don't know another phone that currently supports 15w wireless charging. The Nexus 6P supports it over wired (5V 3A).

I'm feeling good about my decision not to get the EDGE now. The regular S7 is such a nice and pocketable size and I still find the EDGE screen distracting/annoying when content stretches over it. I think I'll stick with my pre-order.

PS: Still very annoyed there's no 64GB version.

I believe that is 15W at the Base, not 15W delivered to the phone which is my point.

Based on all the research I've done the past day, both base and phone handshake the 15w standard, and if compliant will transmit at that power.

The Samsung Fast chargers are not 15w out of the box, there actually isn't a 15w base out at the moment as it's so new. Incipio have one coming out called the Ghost. Should be good.

It's nice to know though that there's no faff with wires for the future of the S7 in terms of fast charging.
