**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

Looks like multiple sources now confirm that the front of the S8 will not have a Samsung logo on it due to there not being enough room!

Many folks will be pleased to hear this.

I really don't think the majority of users are bothered about which qualcom SoC is used so I doubt that would hurt LG

For myself it doesn't matter at all

It does matter when the SoC in question is a major generation upgrade and offers significant improvements and performance/power/battery savings gains over the previous one.

For a 2017 flagship, which will no doubt cost flagship £, to come out with a 2016 SoC is not really acceptable.

I still wouldn't in any way count it out. And since still think not many people who own s7s etc would know/care

I'd absolutely take a price cut for an older soc

They will care once it's all that OEMs advertise, especially the battery life increase, higher 4G speed support, faster etc etc. A notable change that matters to more people is the camera ISP, which is a new generation ahead of SD821.

It's all about marketing, and you can bet that the likes of Samsung will be milking it in their marketing. It's the sole reason phones like the S6 and S7 have done so well. How are LG going to market the G6? It won't be offering any of the new advances in the hardware. It will be like what Sony have done to the Xperia Z line. Same old SoC in a new frock, and look where it got them!

It's harsh, but the only big players in phones these days for the Western world are Google, Samsung and Apple.

The G4 used the SD808 and that did ok, and was well received in the press also. If there's a little brother along side the SD835 - with decent pricing and optimised software the G6 may still have legs on it.
(I personally favour LG's software over Samsungs, but I appear to be in the minority on that one).

Also, we still don't know what the SD835 will be like for battery usage - it should be decent but until it's actually in peoples hands it remains to be seen.

I'm due to an upgrade on my S6 from tomorrow so going to try to wait for the S8. My battery is shockingly bad so hopefully the S8 is a big improvement!

I still love my s6, but i agree, the battery is pretty awful.

I'm on a sim only contract and buy my phones sim free, so will probably wait until the initial price gouging has subsided then pick up an s8.

Which also has nothing to do with the SoC :p

Let's face it, LG have posted profit losses the last half of 2016, and this doesn't appear to be a changing trend, much like HTC's slow demise. LG blamed their losses on the G5, rightfully so, although I have to hand it to them for trying a modular of sorts device, even if nobody bought it for that purpose.
