**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

@ PhoenixUK - I used to think all phone speakers were rubbish too until HTC boom sound and the Nexus 6 came along. These make listening to the phone speakers way more enjoyable. A side speaker is just plain wrong to me.

Also I read somewhere that Samsung said the battery should be at 95% capacity after 2 years of use, whereas the s7 was around 80%.

Spigen Thin Fit looks like the best contender for me - Had Spigen cases on my previous 3 phones.
looks like a good choice, cheap as well. checking out mobile fun and its due on the 2nd may, thought the cases might have been out a little sooner than that.

On a different subject. Wireless fast charging. I've got an official samsung wireless fast charging pad that I got for the S6 Edge (which didn't support it :)) will this now work with the S8?

It should work as the S8 supports wireless fast charging.

Stereo speakers and a big battery would have definitely helped here.

Seeing the battery, I have to say it's far too small. I can't help but think manufacturers are using small batteries to get people to buy new phones. I can't fathom any other reason to keep increasing the power drain per unit time and keep batteries small.

This s8 really doest do anything more than the s7. I'm very very glad I got my s7E and didn't wait for anything more.

Stereo speakers on a phone don't matter to me. If I listen to music or watch a video then its always with a decent pair or earphones or using a bluetooth speaker.

I think Nougat and the S8 are meant to have good bettery optimisation so there was no need for a giant battery. I am lucky that I can keep a charger on my desk at work so always keep my phone charged.

The CPU is more efficient as well and due to being more powerful for multi threading/gpu will obviously use less load to provide the same output. From the video I've posted up earlier it looks like what you'd get from any other phone nowadays, perhaps a bit better than s7e but not massively, it definitely won't be less imho.

Finally held a Samsung S8 in my hand! King's Lynn Vodafone as they weren't strapped down yet.

Very very nice! Fingerprint sensor location isn't too bad even for a left handed person.

It has made me change from orchid grey to black. The grey is noticeably purple at times and I'm not a fan of that. The metal frame also has purple hues to it.

Will post some pics I got later

So far I've seen them in O2, CPW, EE, 3 and Vodafone

i dont want the plus, the normal is just bordering on too big :) Also the 30gb package includes spotify which the 24gb package doesnt!

Does anyone know if this includes the 4gb of EU roaming as per the same tariff directly from Voda? everything else seems the same.

Anyone?

I checked out the S8 and S8+ in store today and have to say, The S8 is the new premium feeling king, previously it was the S7 edge. It feels stronger than and iPhone 7, and the home button force touch haptic feedback feels exactly like the vibration motors on the iPhone now (rejoice!).

In the hand the + isn't really that much taller than the S7 edge, and because it's smaller in width, feels more "at home".

The fingerprint sensor on both variants is in a stupid place. I have medium sized hands and even I found it awkward.

Orchard Grey genuinely looks amazing in person, just wish the edge frame wasn't a pseudo purple/pink, which makes it feel a bit girly.

Overall, impressed by the physical feel of the devices themselves, but unimpressed by the price

I'll probably be waiting for Note 8 or Pixel 2 or that new device Andy Rubin is working on as that looks to be a beast.

You'll be wanting the arctic silver then ;) and the silver case
I held it but with the security thing on the back - I think it's going to do very well.

The silver was too silver for my liking, and too shiny. LG G6's silver seems to be the best interpretation of this colour. I also don't use cases, so that's out the question :p

Black is the way to go, black with a dbrand leatherette skin on the back.

Vodafone say they can't cancel my upgrade order now, I'll have to wait until they email me a consignment number saying the phone is on its way...then I can call and cancel.

In the meantime I'll order that MPD deal I posted a couple of pages back. 30GB £39 one.

Asked them (Voda) about PAC and they said that the PAC can still be used to go from Vodafone to Vodafone without issues...Only problem / slight confusion may come as my PAC was generated last month, so expires in a few days.

Will discuss with MPD tomorrow and see what they say.

Seems a bit more of a boost than the "minor" s7edge owners are claming? CPU Multitasking is a good 30% higher there.

Rounded up numbers:

S7 S8 Increase:
Overall 131000 173000 32%
3D 473000 720000 52%
UX 38000 52000 37%
CPU Overall 35000 38000 9%
CPU Multi Core 12000 16000 33%
RAM 10000 10000 0%

Thank you for posting that. As you said yourself not such a "minor" difference after all. A 32% total increase is pretty good and a 52% 3D increase shows just how much the GPU is improved over last years model.

Do these benchmarks convert to real world differences? If an app has built in latency to allow resources to gather etc, a slightly faster cpu etc wont make any difference?
