**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

150gb of what data?

Few tracks in FLAC, audio books and a couple of TV shows for on the go, really it doesn't take much to fill up.

Good quality audio takes 20-100mb per track, 1 album can be easily around 500gb at least.

Since when we regard 100gb or so to be large storage? 64GB micro sd cards have been around for years.

If iPhone didn't start charging £200 extra for 64-128GB of storage we would be having 256gb phones as standard as it probably costs phone makers about 10£ to put that in the phone.

I see the speedtests on YouTube are showing the S8 with a very narrow victory over the S7 opening apps. No real extra grunt it seems, so now asking myself if the extra cash after selling my S7 is worth it.. Basically a better looking S7 :p

Well I've gone and done it now, got a discount through work so it worked out a bit better than other deals at the moment:

S8 Orchid Grey, £50 up front and £33 a month (6gb data). Plus a £75 Amazon voucher

Voda does up to 30% discounts for certain companies so could be that although they don't normally do vouchers. Oh well, a good deal anyway, not sure why has to be a secret.

30% is sim only, 15% for contracts and excludes any deals...

Just ordered via the smart phone company, £38pcm after cash back, 30gb data inc 4gb EU roaming (phoned and checked), £0 for phone and £31.50 topcashback, spotify premium included too.

I imagine it won't be delivered as early as some other retailers but it's a huge discount...take out the £10pcm that the spotify is worth and the £31.50 topcashback and the total cost over 2 years is £640.50...50 quid cheaper than handset only!

I think the voda discount varies between companies as well but I could be wrong.

A good deal as well, especially if you're after Spotify. I don't use it myself and still have 8 months left on my Sim only contract so taking any of the new deals will set me £85 back at this point which makes going for just the handset a much better deal.

Seems to be the same deal as I bought. Awesome price especially when you look at it that way you have misusing out the Spotify cost.

Didn't know about the roaming data, nice bonus.

Question... Does your Spotify show on your confirmation email? Mine shows everything apart from that and the EU data but I was assured that the Spotify is on there

I had a play with an S8 in store today and I really love the design of the hardware. Even the plus model is really very easy to hold and pocket despite the seemingly ridiculous screen size. However as much as I love the hardware I really don't like what Samsung has done with Android in terms of the interface and replacing standard apps with their own versions.

I've only ever owned either an iPhone or Google Nexus handset and I personally dont see the appeal in buying a flagship phone when Samsung have historically been very slow with OS updates and patches. Plus I don't get why Samsung are trying to punt their own versions of browsers and assistants (Bixby) when Google already have what, as far as I can see, superior versions in the shape of Google Chrome Browser and Google Assistant?

As someone who uses Chrome on their desktop why would I want to use an app that doesn't automatically sync my bookmarks/browser history/etc? I already have enough hassle syncing between Google/Apple and Microsoft's ecosystems. The last thing I need is Samsung trying to get in on the act!

Hopefully Apple/Google will rip off the design of the S8 later this year. Apparently Apple have already ordered a batch of OLED panels from Samsung so it's looking fairly likely...

It'd be nice if the next Google Pixel 2 were able to feature a similar bezel free design to the S8

You can just disable the Samsung apps and install and use the Google ones you know?

It's ego from the OEMs thinking they can do it better. My pet hate with non pixel android phones. Yes, you can download the google versions, but then you have two of everything installed. I don't believe apps which are baked into the rom can be un-installed, but even if they can, after a factory reset they'll come back. Couple of years ago there was the google play edition of oem phones but they never really took off.

I downloaded Spotify for the first time last night and found out how much better it is than Amazon Prime Music. My brain feverishly worked its man maths until it managed to slot the square peg into the round hole and I thought that I could make the smartphonecompany £38pm after cashback with 24 months Spotify work for me. I'd had a couple of drinks, so left it for the morning, only to find that they've shaved £60 off the cashback offer today, adding £2.50 to the overall monthly cost.

It was borderline anyway and (as I've commented previously on this thread) I'm not desperate for the phone, it's just that the battery is stuffed on my iPhone. Still, just goes to show that timing is everything :P

I'm still seeing it as £38pm after cashback?

Pretty sure the s8+ 30gb with Spotify was £40.50, which after taking Spotify 10pm works out at less than cost of the phone alone, with 30gb data.

If I didn't have Sim only 8 months left and used Spotify I'd be all over it. Also the s8+ seems too tall, I advise you have a play with one before you buy.
