**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

let me know if the do match - i'm up for a renewal but put off by the monthly cost.
They offered 10GB data for £25 up front and £51 a month. That's a lot better than the prices on their website but I turned it down and got my PAC. Hopefully I get a call from them with a better deal. Otherwise I am not sure whether to switch to Vodafone or not.

Edit: that's for the S8+ by the way.

I'm with vodafone and don't have any issues... Customer service has always been OK and I'd say reasonably helpful at solving issues

Garbage, comes up to over 1200 which is £500 for the plan alone, basically asking £21 a month for "10gb sim only", surely you can get better. If your contract is actually over and it's not an early upgrade that you have to pay off I'd grab some of those sweet £32-40 24-30GB deals on mobiles.co.uk etc, can't really beat that.

The prices on Mobiles.co.uk are fairly similar - £51/month, £75 upfront and £40 Quidco cashback for 10GB a month.

EE have excellent coverage but unfortunately are just an expensive network.

Ah yes, EE are pricey, voda has some good deals though, especially if you're using spotify or sky/now tv, basically just paying the price of the phone alone once you factor these in.

The prices of the s8 are absolutely mental.

For example, I can get one from 3 on contract which offers 4GB Data. All-you-can-eat Minutes. All-you-can-eat Texts. 24 month Contract. £79.00 upfront + £50.00 a month - total cost over 24 months = £1279

or

I could buy the phone sim free for £689 and get exactly the same minutes/texts/data from 3 on a sim only plan for £12 a month - total cost over 24 months = £977

So, effectively, they are charging over £300 for letting you pay monthly for the phone - With the RRP of being £689 that is an interest rate of nearly 33% APR (if I've done my sums correctly) and they should feel thoroughly ashamed for ripping people off like this!

Problems with the S8:

Touchwiz. It IS still bad. I've got an S7 edge, bought it because reviews said it didn't slow down the phone anymore, but it's noticeably slower than a Nexus 6P I recently picked up.
Edge screen. It makes typing harder, and gripping the phone is noticeably harder too, even though the back is curved.
Tall screen. Usability is hard enough on large phones, but this is crazy. You're going to be shifting the phone up and down like crazy.

The S7 with stock android would be, in my opinion, the perfect phone (or as perfect as you could get without changing specifications).

those who have ordered from smart phone company/MPD...does your status show "awaiting network decision" too? Wondering if it's because it's a pre-order and they don't actually process that bit until they have stock, or if something is iffy with my application (i'm already with Vodafone so potentially something to do with that)

Same problem here ordered 3days qgo

I see MPD/Smartphonecompany are now doing the "receive 8 days early thing" which they weren't when I placed my order last Friday... I wonder if they'll be extending that out to all customers or only newly placed orders

I tried to have a go of both phones in a Three shop and a CPW. The trouble was, the phones were locked down and held in those metal clamps they use to (quite rightly) stop people nicking them. It meant that I could see the screen, but couldn't test the feel of the phones in my hand, nor see how easy they were to operate with one or two hands. Also the phones in neither place were properly set up and you could do almost nothing apart from stare at the screen. They also seemed strangely sluggish (I had a try on a Pixel and that was lightning fast in comparison), but I'm sure this was down to how they'd been set up. It was a really bad way of advertising a premium product. I'm sure they'd be easier to view in a Samsung shop, but I couldn't find one in the time I had available. One thing's for sure, the screens make the 5.5" on my 6s+ look extremely dated in comparison.

I've been checking the smartphonecompany offers and I'm certain they've reduced the sS8+ cashback twice now on the 30Gb Vodafone contract - down from £240 to £180 yesterday and now £120 today. You can tell they've done it, because they've not updated the little graphic next to it which proudly proclaims "Save £10 per month", which would have made it originally £38, but is now £43 per month (saving only a fiver). They've probably a had a lot of interest in the offer and stuck their prices up accordingly.

people who have held the phones in the flesh, what colour does the 'orchid grey' model look?

I've seen it advertised as Lilac on some stores.

Ithought it wasn't called touchwiz anymore? Its a new UI.

Its the colour I ordered and saw it in the flesh at CPW yesterday. Its a strange almost gray/blue colour depending on the light hitting it.

Where did you see this mate? Absolutely fantastic news if correct :D

Especially if you can map it to any app, that would be superb.

There's a post on Reddit showing a video. It's using an existing app in the Play store called All In One Gestures, but I'm sure more will become available. Should be able to get it to do any normal app launch, not sure about Google Assistant though - but I'd bet someone finds a way.
