**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

They're expensive, yes, but not anymore than any other flagship phones, especially after Brexit, even the Chinese phones cost 500-550+ now. That's just what the prices are now, I also think that a £400 cpu or £600 gpu is expensive but can't change the market unfortunately.

We've paid £530-600 for plastic phones for years back when pound was at 1.6 to dollar and now £100 more for something of much better quality at 1.2+ exchange is suddenly a problem.

If you take how weak the pound currently is into consideration, this is actually the cheapest Samsung phone in years.

The s7 edge was about £629 on release that £150 cheaper

Anyone remember what the pound to dollar was in march 2016 ?
EDIT :Google says 1.4360

If I got the maths right then £630 in march 2016 is about £775 with today exchange rate..
Using 1.4360 vs 1.230

OK maybe I should asked if there is anyone here that doesn't feel like it highly over priced.....:D

I bet all the iPhone fans are laughing after all the years the mick has been taken out of them for paying apple crazy prices..:p

Well I paid £699 for an iPhone 7 with 128gb of storage at launch, so not really too much of a difference here especially when you get Wireless Charging, larger/better display, better waterproofing for £689 (Albeit with 64GB of storage but also expandable).

It's really the norm now.

While its expensive its not any more expensive than I imagined it would be before they announced the prices. I'm mostly just annoyed we don't get the 6GB variant. That would have future proofed for some time.

Had another play with these today in cpw - this time minus all the security leash bits so got a proper feel for them.
The regular S8 is quite nice but still found the lack of bottom bezel problematic when trying to use it single handed. Did feel nice and snappy in use and the edges bothered me less than i thought they would.
The S8+ is just ridiculous - feels overly long and overly narrow. Really don't know what Samsung were thinking when they came out with that. If the next note follows suit....

Pixel 2 has a lot riding on it!

All of the above. It didn't feel "natural" and looks almost comical.
+1 to that, even with 2 hands you have to stretch your palms extremely to reach either end of the screen, it just doesn't feel right. The s8 is just about as far as I'd go with screen size on this ratio.

I see no point in the s8+ considering it offers same spec bar the battery. They couldve make it wider and add massive speaker, or stylus on the side hah(oh wait).

Anyone else feel that these new S8 & S8+ mobile phones are highly over priced ?

Samsung Galaxy S8 £689
Samsung Galaxy S8+ £779

Yes it's extortionate unfortunately but while people continue to pay it, they're happy to keep bumping the price up.

I've had the latest Samsung handset for the last few yrs running, I wait until I can pick it up for under £35 a month with the handset normally free because I expect to pay under £800 over 2 years in total (including the contract.) Atm I'm paying £29.50 a month on my launch day S7 edge which I know was a good deal - handset was free.

People must have really small hands. I had no problem touching the top and the bottom Of the s8+ screen.

It's only a few mm bigger than my Note 4

I see MPD/Smartphonecompany are now doing the "receive 8 days early thing" which they weren't when I placed my order last Friday... I wonder if they'll be extending that out to all customers or only newly placed orders

I actually mailed them about this, that's EE only :(

The chitterchatter deal is back on guys... was a problem with the website showing out of stock.

Ive just ordered and gone through TCB as they was offering 3.15% cashback.

Oh and ive cancelled my carphone warehouse order :D

This deal crossed my price threshold (S8+) so I pulled the trigger. I'm just wondering though, are we likely to actually get them on the 21st? Has anyone had any experience with them, particularly with any pre orders?

I hope we don't get messed around too much, I only saved £30 compared to Samsung's own website (with the £30 off code) and missed out on the free insurance (which I don't need admittedly...)

Now I've just got to shift my iPhone 7 plus...

I might be the only person to say this but I think they are good value, considering the exchange rate nose dive.

The 32gb pixel XL launched at £719 last year, which is what I just paid for the S8+. The pixel just mimicked iPhone design and clearly had billions less R&D spent on it than the S8.

The S8 has pushed the envelope considerably in most aspects compared to that phone, and also compared to the iPhone, which is a similar price and has not had an external design change in 3 years.

We didn't have 700 quid phones a few years ago. You also used to be able to get a flat for £200k in London a few years ago. Times change. We consumers drive price, so these phones are worth what people are willing to pay for them now.
