**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

The S8 has pushed the envelope considerably in most aspects compared to that phone, and also compared to the iPhone, which is a similar price and has not had an external design change in 3 years.
Pushed the envelope in terms of form over function yes. They've outdone apple big time in that respect!

Maximising screen real estate whilst keeping the same footprint, I'd say they've hit form and function in one swoop. More so at least than any other phone in the last couple of years anyway..

I hope we don't get messed around too much, I only saved £30 compared to Samsung's own website (with the £30 off code) and missed out on the free insurance (which I don't need admittedly...)

Now I've just got to shift my iPhone 7 plus...

The £30 off code on samsung website with code is long gone I think or just doesn't apply to S8 as I haven't had luck with it, it's still better and the insurance samsung offered is kind of pointless anyway, doesn't cover theft or loss and only minor damage I think..

I've heard that the display doesn't come set to wqhd+ out of the box. Do you think setting it to this will cause a huge battery drain? Do you think you'll even notice a major difference with it set to wqhd+ ?

I was in carphone warehouse and you are right, it is set to a lower resolution, I had to go into the settings to set it to maximum warp.

18.5:9 screen. A solution to a problem nobody had. I wished the just kept it 16:9 with the same small bezels instead of an odd looking and feeling tall phone.

Set it to the highest res and forget about it. I have a smaller battery and about as big screen on my Nexus 6 and don't have an issue with battery life. But then again I don't have bloatwiz either.

I've played with the settings and couldn't really tell much difference(tried zooming in text in Web pages etc), you can change it very quickly in the menu. Remember it's fhd+ so it's bigger than fhd, 2220x1080 if I remember correctly.

I'm actually a big fan of that option as if you're just reading a book, texting or browsing Web, the lower res is perfectly fine and if you happen to have some 2k+ movies or photos you to watch or show off, just change the setting in 5 seconds.

People got hung up on ppi like mad over the last few years ever since it started being used as a sales/marketing thing.

If 1920x1080 is fine on your monitor, why wouldn't it be fine on a phone? Much bigger tablets run same res.

Anything over 250-300 ppi looks fine on average use.

Anyone else feel that these new S8 & S8+ mobile phones are highly over priced ?
Samsung Galaxy S8 £689
Samsung Galaxy S8+ £779

They've been expensive for years, the S6 edge was even more expensive in 2015...

Price
Samsung has revealed that the entry-level 64GB Galaxy S6 Edge will cost a whopping £760 SIM free, and is taking orders directly over on its website.

i caved in and bought the s8+ and clear case from the samsung website.

obviously i'm going to prostitute myself to pay for it as i do think it's a little overpriced. i think maybe £50-£70 off the current price would have been better.

I bought the orchid colour (hopefully i won't regret the colour like i did with my gold s7 edge. should probably stick to black in future. who buys gold phones? i mean really? it's tacky.)

I was actually going to buy the lg g6 but the fact that the uk version has no dac or wireless charging was very insulting for the price they wanted so went with the s8+ instead.

i actually don't want a samsung but the competition is so useless right now i can't justify not going with samsung. i want a great camera, wireless charging , micro sd card slot, a good design and NO STOCK ANDROID like OS.

samsung is the only one who offers this right now. LG just can't seem to step up and when you think they do they mess about with the formula for the handset in your region and the price being crazy OTT.

same here. I have the G4 right now and its a fantastic handset but the bettery is almost done in so want a new phone. Just went for the S8 as felt the 8+ is too large. I opted for the Orchid Grey too. Looks nice in the flesh.

I don't know whats up with LG gimping their phones. The G3 and G4 were brilliant but the G5 and now the G6 have been pretty poor. Thats the only reason I went back to samsung TBH. I still don't get why they have removed features for the EU market and have different features in the US and Eastern markets. .

I have the LG G3 and waited to see what they brought out with the G6 as a possible upgrade, but although nice its pretty much running last years hardware from what i have read, so charging the price they are they will be taking a hit im sure as people will just avoid it, which is why i also turned to a Samsung phone instead, last time i had a Samsung phone was the S3 (5 years ago), so im looking forward to the S8 being delivered.

loved the lg g4. had so much potential.

the module g5 was a disaster after the options of leather backs for the g4. it stood out. the g5 didn't stand out. it was odd.

shame that lg just can't make a worthy improvement on the g4.

the lg g6 should have been the american version everywhere at least. the uk version is pointless

I just ordered the orchid S8 too from Samsung, the £30 off plus 12 months free insurance pushed me over the edge. I would have got a LG G6 over the S8 too if it had the quad DAC.

Why they couldn't include the quad DAC AND the wireless charging in the phone, then it would have been worth purchasing.

i could have compromised on the dac

but wireless charging not really.

at the price the uk shouldn't have to. if they dropped the price by 100.00 then maybe.

the dual camera is just not enough a selling point.

Think I am going to go for the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case or the Slim Armour case. They both look really nice, and the slim armour case a kickstand for when you want to watch something.
