**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Thread ****

I still have an s6 which i waited a few months for the price to drop. Think i paid 470 for it a few months after launch.

It's true everything is going up in price but the s8 seems particularly extortionate in price.
That goes with literally anything you buy these days though, you want a 4k OLED tv at release date, expect to pay a premium for it, then watch the price drop like a stone after a few months, same with mobiles, nothing has changed in all the years i've had phones, sometimes i've purchased at release date and paid the premium, other times i've waited a few months and grabbed a good deal.

I'm not even bothered if my phone comes on 21st or 28th either tbh, i'm in no rush, it'll be here when it gets here. I'm just chuffed with the deal i've got as the contract is virtually free at £1.58 a month over the cost of the actual phone (taking spotify into consideration). I don't even think prices will drop too much either in even 6 months, look at the S7 edge, that's still commanding £500 over a year after launch sim free.

As i said earlier in the thread, (and others have also said), the price isn't even that bad, considering the S6 edge was MORE EXPENSIVE than the S8 at launch 2 years ago, and that's without taking the £ / yen rate being 20% less than a year ago. If anything, the S8 is much better value.

The s6 edge was a bit different though. It was stupidly expensive as it was the first galaxy phone to have the edge design curved screen. This is now a standard feature.

I would really like an s8, no doubt about it. But there is no way I'm paying 700 quid for a phone. It just doesn't make sense to me, especially as my s6 is still a very good phone.

I will sit and wait patiently and watch what the price does over the next few months. Once it drops below 600 and i get my bonus, i may start to get tempted :)

In the meantime, i have a good sim only contract with three at 15 quid a month for 12gb of data and an immaculate s6 which i still enjoy using.

Technically, had you got the £42 a month deal with the £10 phone, it would have cost you £648 so slightly cheaper :p

S6 64gb was $785 on release, the s8 is 720. The s6 edge was i think $915 for same model. You can already find the s8 around £40-50 cheaper than RRP, even rainforest has them for £640, mine costed £604 after cashback.

Also, it wasnt the first phone to have edge screen, the note (4) edge was.

At least s6 still has decent octa core spec so you're not desperate for upgrade, if anything I would be tempted to wait another 6 months for OP5 /note 8/iphone 8 release as that should bring prices down and might be able to get 2nd hand one for around £450 by then.

I'm amazed at the amount of people blindly paying whatever samsung ask for.

Expect prices to go up another 100 quid for the s9.

Is the price not similar to that of the S7 edge on release once you factor in the brexit induced GBP nose dive?

You can't expect Samsung to drop their margins here on account of that

Has anyone who ordered sim free from CPW had any other updates from them regarding delivery? I pre-ordered on the 3rd but other than the confirmation email I've not heard anything since.

Still couldn't get a clear answer from Vodafone about my S8 order and whether I will actually get it on the 20th. Spoke to sales and the mobile care team.

Chill, jesus christ. People whining because their status isn't changing days before the item is due to ship is embarrassing.

oy, leave him out of this you :) :p :)

Some of us have placed more than just a pre-order -we signed up to the upgrade programme, and handset launch or not there has been no progress on the actual order status (it should at least have gone to 'authorised' or something). oh well, not long to go now.

btw spigen sent me a spam email:

plenty of choice

Won't the speaker magnets etc damage a credit card if kept so close to the phone?
I've had to replace three debit cards due to them being too close to my existing Z3....

Ordered my S8 direct from Samsung, still unprocessed. Trying to look for a quality leather pouch. I usually buy from Sena but they have nothing at the moment, any other recommendations?

Managed to crack an edge section of my S7 Edge screen on weekend. Tempted to just sell it as is and put money I get towards S8 now instead of paying for a repair. What sort of price should I expect to get for it (the crack is only on the extreme edge of the screen and hasn't damaged the panel, just cracked the glass)?

Thanks, i was looking for something like the crystal hybrid one (slim armor but clear) but it wasnt available last week. Ive already ordered and have ringke clear hybrid case which looks decent but if I feel I need a kickstand I might get one of these.. shame it sticks out a bit.

I also ordered directly from Samsung. I'm a bit worried that they won't ship it tomorrow because it says "receive it up to 8 days early". Hopefully I can get it soon - I had to return a faulty LG G5 and now I'm using the missus' phone
