Nice shots guys :)

Can anyone recommend me a good 747? Looking for something with a reasonably detailed flight model and uhdt liveries. Got all my oldschool AP's, feel like something a bit more current. Cheers!

When thinking of the 747 for FSX there is only 2 that spring to mind, CLS 747 and PMDG747, there might be a decent freeware version of it from Project Opensky but not sure, check the libraries at AVSIM & Flightsim.

CLS747 is cheaper but less detailed (I use it and fairly happy with it) and although a more complex flight model then the default FSX 747 it pretty basic compared to the immensely detailed PMDG. The PMDG 747 is much much more expensive, especially as they have several different models which have a hefty price tag each! But then again, they are seriously indepth.

As for HD or even UHDT liveries, alas none of them have it. McPhat, the only company doing UHDT, have only done UHDT on the Super 80s and CS757 series. They have also done HD liveries for PMDG's MD-11 just recently. Some other companies are slowly venturing out into HD livery territory like Carenado's Grand Caravan and the 2 recent releases of Captain Sim, the B-52 & B707 are both in HD paintkit format.

Best thing would be to check reviews & pricing on both the CLS & PMDG's version, AVSIM best place for reviews. Oh and CLS's 747 is rather old now and doesn't run in DX10 mode.

That's all I can think of.

Cheers.

Just a question from me, how do all of you get those shots of your planes parked up with a support vehicles close by as well as the stair case etc. Also some shots I have seen show internal shots of the airplane itself?

Depends on several factors, the 3rd party aircraft itself usually has animated staircases or at least opening doors, some even have animated support vehicles or personnel, CLS 747 and most of the CS Boeing range springs to mind, whereas most addons will have very basic internals some have gone into great depth like Captain Sim's 707 where the entire galley is reproduced in detailed models and textures. It can also be part of the 3rd party airport as that may have many static and animated support vehicles all over the place. Last but not least, Aerosoft's AES (Airport Enhancement Services), with this addon you can actually call up many support vehicles & personnel with practically any addon but only at airport which it support (only payware onces AFAIK).

Hope that answers your question.

Soya - where did you get your AI traffic from?

I use 3 different types of AI, combined or separate depending on the circumstances. Just Flight's Traffic X, Flight1 AirtrafficFX & Mudpond's Formation tool. There is basically 2 types of AI, static which takes the least system resources and FPS drain and full AI with flight plan etc which takes much more. As PC become more powerful, esp CPU, the more complex and demanding stuff you can turn on in FSX especially complex AI traffic and models.

@Devjij. Been really getting in the 747 recently. The PMDG is a vastly detailed model and very advanced. Took me an age to get to grips with it and am still always getting stuck usually with the FMC and start up procedure. It is expensive, but it was one of my first purchases as an add on and felt I just had to have it. Haven't got much experience with the CLS model but I do have their A330/340 and DC-10 packages and their pretty good and a bit easier to fly. Dug up a few old screenshots of the 747, hope you liked them!

In the market for a new graphics card. Still running an (overclocked) EVGA GTX 260 SCC, has anybody got any recommendations. Ideally looking to spend about £150. Obviously the GTX 460/470 come to mind but has anybody any experience with the new 6850/ 6870 cards or even a 5870? Cheers.

Hi guys, has anyone got any of the ORBX FTX North American packages (pacific northwest, pacific fjords or the new northern rockies)

Really fancy getting one but not sure which is the best? Would much per mountain/forest scenery, not that bothered about coasts/large airports etc. Mostly for low VFR flying.

Would love to see some screenshots of them too!;)

Thanks for the advice guys, sounds like the CLS is the one for me as we approach xmas, and then maybe when I build my new rig I might get stuck into the PMDG. I do like trying to figure out the whole process before realising I'm going to have to do loads of research lol. Way more fun than "flaps down, throttle up" flying.

Hi Shadow Boxer, I really recommend the Pacific Northwest FTX package, it really is fantastic and well polished. There are more airports/airfields/helipads than I can shake a stick at! Next time I'm up in that part of the worl I will drop a screen shot. It really is ideal for low flying VFR as there are endless valleys to explore and ridges to climb.
