The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

The only issue i have with Rex 2.0 is the weather system. when i load a random weather scene for example ( low front with thunderstorms and heavy rain) when i load the flight plan Rex only generates a 1-2 small blobs of percipitation, or the thunderstorms are somewhere off the map no-where near my flight plan, it's highly frustrating to go through flight plan to get the right weather which can take 1-3 minutes to load everytime. I think the next Rex should give you choices, for example (you select where you want the weather, how big the weather is, what type of weather it is), , so instead of rex installing a random weather patternyou have full control what you can have. lets just say im flying from an airport you have hazy thundery sky's, as you take off more percipitation builds into dark thunderstorms. From my understanding they are trying to create cloud shadows next :)

Yeh, not a big fan of REX weather engine and to be honest I don't mess around with it too much. Tend to load themes every so often but stick with ones I like and change weather in FSX it self. WOW, cloud shadows, somehow I think that'll cripple performance! I don't even run autogen scenery shadows! :(

Anyway had orbx pacific northwest now for a week and thought I'd upload some screenshots. It really it unbelievable! Performance wise, its not too bad either (runs perfectly fine with the likes of the default fsx aircraft, the Maule is fantastic for low VFR flying btw) but can take a hit with some of the more complicated models. Quite a few images here of a flight in central Oregon in the Carenado Grand Caravan 208B, including a few inside to show the aircraft.

Finally my fav shot;

Thanks, loving the last two in particular. Haven't ventured much in BC yet, mostly still around Oregon and Washington. Oh so tempted to get the new northern rockies...but must resist for now...somehow!

Fred, what spec system have you got? tempted to get a new GFX card...£165 for a 470 is tempting me.

I better add my spec to my signature line, but I'm running an AMD/ATI build (1st ever diy build). Running AMD940BE 3ghz(3.4ghz oc) Asus M3879-T Deluxe mobo, 4GB 800mhz Crucial Ballistix RAM, XFX HD4890.
I set myself a budget and this was the best value I came up with, however, if I had built it with FSX in mind (was taking a break from flightsims!) I would have gone down the nvidia road. With ATI there is no V-sync or work around in FSX, which can sometimes make things a bit choppy. My next build I'll have a bit more dosh available. Do you think if I added another 2gb of ram I would get much improvement? I don't think tat FSX is using all what there is now.

What's the name of the airport you are flying out of in the screenshot in Oregon?

The Phenom II X4 940 is still great processor and clocked to 3.4 isn't bad. You could probably try to squeeze a bit more from it, but if I remember correctly most tend to top out at around 3.6-3.8 on air? Not sure how much you would benefit from adding another 2GB of RAM and the 940BE with the 4890 is still a good combination. Best thing is just to wait before upgrading you system I think, see what Intel's Sandy Bridge has to offer, but they'll be releasing their low-mid end in Jan 2011 then should see higher end coming later in the year.

Was flying out of Hobby Airfield [77S] (completely random choice from Google Earth, and seemed a nice place to start for a short trip in central Oregon)

Thanks for the advice on systems, much appreciated. Think I'll hold fire until there is suitable reaon to make a significant upgrade. Think I'll go and check out Hobby Airfield now! My shots were taken on a flight from Hansen Airfield up to Scum Lake- as this takes in the glaciers up in BC. Not much up at scum lake mind!

Some nice shots there folks.

Yes there is check here http://forum.avsim.net/topic/283143-fsx-vsync-fix/

PS shadowboxer, in case you are still interested or anyone else for that matter, I am selling my GTX480 (4 months old from OCUK includes box), revised asking price will be £210 but excluding delivery, as I live in Jersey will have to work that out with the buyer. Email in trust if anyone wants it otherwise I will be posting it in the For Sale forum.

Thanks for the heads up Soya! Has improved things no-end. Nice to see the scenery not staggering along underneath you. I hadn't even thought that there would be a solution yet to the V-Sync/ATI issue. Cheers! :D

Hello all, can't believe I haven't seen this thread before, considering how long I have been lurking here. Thought I would drop in with a few Screenies from my old system.. (Just updated to an i7 950 o/c to 4.2ghz, but it is currently RMA'd :( )

Can't wait to see what FSX runs like once I have had a decent chance to actually go about tweaking it on the new system once it returns!!

Hello all, can't believe I haven't seen this thread before, considering how long I have been lurking here. *snip*

Welcome to the thread and your first post on these forums. Great shots and looking forward to see what your new system can do when it comes to FSX. Hope you find some useful tips in this thread about setting up FSX.

Cheers

 WOW, Soya...you're new system sounds stunning from your sig!!

FSX on its own 480GB Revo Drive X2 SSD and 580 SLI! Pics please of your rig....I don't even care about fsx any more after that!

ps. sig should be 4 lines otherwise you'll get the usual ...see FAQ...

Thanks shadow, didn't know about the four line thing, sorted it now. My new PC hasn't arrived yet, its finished but they are still system testing it atm. Should hopefully have it sometime next week, they also still waiting to get my Revodrive x2 480Gb in stock as it hasn't arrived yet but should later this week. Will indeed take some pictures of the beast once I have it though, plus benchmarks once I have it up and running. FSX full install and tweak will take a while though but hopefully get it all up and running @Xmas.

Cheers.

Cheers for the welcome :)

Those were taken when I had a Sapphire 4890 2gb card installed, decided I wanted a DX 11 card for up and coming titles so flogged the 4890 on ebay (quite chuffed as i got back what I paid for it)

Decided to give the Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB OC card as a bit of an experiment, as have only used ATI with FSX and wanted to see how much difference there was between those and nVidia (not noticed much to be fair)

I have managed to have a quick play on the new bits, which came as an O/C'd bundle, but saddly it appears they had a muppet on duty the day it was put together and only set the OC to 4ghz. My theory is if theres a warranty I will let them fix it! (Not OCUK btw)

All I can say is, I really can't wait to get it back and all set up properly. Thankfully I am away in Venice whilst it is all RMA'd so the wait won't seem so long! lol

Apologies if these are the incorrect size. My first time uploading pics to a forum! I got my Benq 120hz monitor today and it really has improved my frame rates and stopped any stutters.

Two of my favourite rides for FSX, the L-39 Albatros and VRS F-18.

Love the F-18 goodness.

I see captain sim have released their B52 Driver... may have to bag that one when I have finished for xmas. Snowed under with coursework atm so cant get round to some flying :( Ionically, its for flight dynamics and control!
