The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

What a great setup.

UK2000 are having their annual Xmas sale..

I shouldn't be spending money on this hobby this time of year, but Glasgow and East Mids is < £13 each..

I had a quick flight in the Airbus yesterday from East Midlands to Dublin on Vatsim. East Midlands had Ground, Tower and Radar on and my transition between them was seemless.

For some reason my ILS approach into Dublin was the biggest coq-up in ages. Everytime I engaged the localiser I was being taken well off track. I corrected it and then engaged APP at 2500 feet and still veered completely off-track. My ILS frequency was correct, so I didn't understand why..

On the plus side, I flew in Dusk and the REX textures at sunset were awesome.

My credit card is still cooling off from the Orbx sale...oh well, never was good at saving :D

Have to agree with the REX Quote, I've just bought this and couldn't believe how much better it all looks.
Next acquisition I think is UK2000 Gatwick extreme which I had a few years ago and now I can't find it or any of my details. Does anybody have issues with this when closing FSX? There are a few posts on other forums suggesting there is/was an issue with Ai_player.dll? It could be that this relates to the version I had and the newer one has been fixed.
Grateful for any advice as always.

If you bought the scenery from UK2000's website, your details and activation key will be in your account there. Shortly after my post, I bought Glasgow.

I've no idea about the .dll, but it it works, it works. Just remember to backup the original one before you copy over it.

yaay, more airports to buy even though I cant afford them!

Was thinking how well I did by not buying anything in the syeam sale this time round but then I remembered how much I've spent on FS stuff lately :(

But with an upstairs bar and showers, it's like a non-stop party in the air.. The pilots and stewardesses would only need to get dressed for take-off and landing.

On the top deck of the aircraft, First Class passengers can freshen up in one of two Onboard Shower Spas, whilst First and Business Class travelers can mix and mingle in the popular Onboard Lounge — enjoying a drink and exchanging tales at 40,000 feet.

I wouldn't like to hit any turbulence while taking a shower!

My brother just flew Business class(Emirates)from Sydney to Gatwick and he said it was brilliant.

I'm going to go for a clean install of FSX, just upgraded to a 770 and triple screens. What's the best tweak guide out there at the moment? There's 40 million different tweaks and it gets a bit overwhelming to be honest, does anyone know of a good recent guide?

These are all you need to add to the FSX.cfg if you have a modern reasonable powerful rig.

The GTX770 will help with anti-aliasing but won't make much of a difference to fps.

Disable Anti-aliasing in FSX and set filtering to tri-linear; then set higher AA and anisotropic filtering in nvidia inspector

Scroll down on this page to see nvidia inspector settings.

You will see a lot of other tweaks shown on this guys FSX blog, but bear in mind that the VAST majority of these are only relevant if you have an outdated/underpowered PC..so ignore them...really.

Adjust your FSX sliders to fine tune...job done.

Good stuff, thanks very much. I upgraded from a 7850 which was pretty terrible in FSX, especially for AA, and I could never get it looking good enough. I was mainly updating to the trip screens and 770 to power them for racing sims, but FSX working much better is a happy coincidence I forgot about completely.

One more question, which has probably been asked to death. I'm going for the usual combination of Orbx England + Scotland + Global, REX for weather and PMDG aircraft for the flying, mostly. I feel like I should be using UTX or GEX or something which fixes the roads, coastlines etc. Basically, what's the best addon for this, or is it even worth it at all?

1 more, is DX10 patching worth bothering with?

If you have FTX global then you have no need for GEX as it does the same thing. Also I would wait for FTX vector which should be out before christmas. Will give you global road/rail/river/coastline coverage in one go, whereas UTX is regionalised. I believe its set to retail for around £35 plus you get a 10% discount if you own FTX Global.

Video of how Global and Vector fit together here: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/69118-ftx-global-vector-europe-preview-p3d-20/

Thanks thingemajib, I guess i will wait for FTX, the rest of their stuff is excellent so I bet Vector will be great too.

Really happy with the way FSX is running after spending a few hours with it, with 5760 res and nice AA for a change!!. I'm getting a fairly solid 30fps when I'm low, even over London, and when it's a clear day. If I add in clouds though it starts going down to 10 - 20 especially when I'm above them, so I need to figure out how to make them perform better. I'm using 8xS AA with 2x Sparse Grid or whatever it's called, and I guess the AA being applied to the clouds is killing my performance. Any tips?

There's a little stretching on the left and right screens as you can see in the screenshot, but I've read that's fairly normal with trip screens and there's not much I can do about it.
