The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

However it says that FTX global is a requirement for vector in the first place so having the discount seems a bit pointless to me

"GET 10% OFF IF YOU PURCHASE FTX GLOBAL BASE BEFORE THE END OF DECEMBER!"

So for the 10% off you need to get Global pretty soon, also remember most of their stuff is also in a sale for a couple more days

Wondering if anyone had upgraded from REX 3 to 4. Is it worth the upgrade? Are the textures provided much better?

Shame all they offer is $5 off to existing REX owners.

Does anyone have the QW 146 Collection? Has always been one of my favourite aircraft, I remember there used to be an excellent one for FS9 I spent hours and hours in so it's tempting. It seems to get good reviews, and it's on offer until the 1/1/14 but would be nice to get some of your opinions first.

oops, missed that bit. Between the recent P3D frenzy, christmas shopping and a parking ticket (merry christmas to you too, bucks county council...) I'm wiped out for the time being :(

Looks like you also need a global mesh for it to be 100% compatible which takes the grand total for all 3 to about 130 quid!

Im all installed now, very impressed with the q400 it is a great aeroplane and so much fun to fly :)

Let me know when any of you are having a fly and I will tag along :)

I now have both, and am keeping REX3 (essentials) along side REX4 as it has textures I like, and the ability to custom colour water, which v4 does not have. TBH I don't think REX4 offers a great deal for current REX FSX only users.. some of the new water animations are nice, as are some of the new textures, but how many textures do you need? the integration between FSX and P3Dv1.4 and v2 is very good however, enabling a simple bullet/tick to place the textures in the sim of your choice, if you're running multiple installs... and the textures and animations have optimisations for DX9, 10 and 11.

Also note, this is JUST textures, and you will need to add other REX sections, when released, to get the weather engine and flight planner... or use 3rd party products.

fantastic shots!!

Thank you :)

I have been using the new Active Sky Next for the last few days on a trial which runs out in 2 days, its fantastic well worth a try if anyone is looking for a wx add on

what would be a good medium spec pc for fsx?

FSX will chew-up whatever you throw at it. It eats CPU power more than GPU so whatever is the best clocking CPU you can afford.. I'm out of touch with PC components, so am not sure what the current tech offers. FSX has always favoured nVidia GPU's with AMD struggling, esp. in heavy weather, though again things may have changed. I guess my set-up would be considered mid-range at best, and it copes in most circumstances, running at a locked 30fps... so anything like mine, or better will be fine.

Agreed, I ran the trial and thought it was very impressive, and far more so than the REX engine. I tend to make my own weather, so would not bother unless it was very cheap... but if I were to buy a weather engine it would be ASN.

A few pics over GenX Central Scotland. TBH its a bit of a mess, with lots of flaws, as do the other Scotland volumes. I know it was very difficult to get clear data, due to the typical Scottish weather, so you have to forgive some of the faults... it can look great with the right conditions.

Okay, there should not be street lights running up Glen Coe, and across Rannoch Moor, but it does help the composition :D

So, I treated myself to a lot of stuff over Christmas so I will be re-installing my FSX again. Can someone have a look at this and make sure I'm not doing anything daft?, and any suggestions on which order to install this stuff? This is a checklist I came up with (in the spirit of flying)

Install FSX Vanilla - Run & Activate, close.
Install Acceleration - Run& Close.
Install PMDG 737 & 777 & any other aircraft
Install FS Global 2010 (This will take days, took long enough to d/l)
Install ORBX FTX Global + Patches
Install ORBX EU Eng + Scot
Install FTX Vector
Install latest ORBX libs
Install UK2000 airports
Install REX OD+Ess + SP's, install textures @ disable Wx
Install OpusFSX
Run O&O Defrag in Complete/Name on D Drive (FSX @ General Storage Drive).
Tweak FSX (widscreen=true, affinitymask, stick_sensitivity_mode, general graphical options)
Profit?

Seems like a lot to do to get FSX working when I spell it out like that. I think once I have done this once I will make an image of it so I don't need to do it again.

At the moment, my spec is i5 4670K, GTX770, 8gb ram. Does the job, keeps a fairly solid 30fps at 5760x1080 res with a ton of eye candy, and doesn't really break the bank.

Your install order looks good to me, basically the same as I did a couple of days ago, although I am not running as many add-ons. look into Koftas guide for tweaks, I ran through them all and I am getting about 30fps locked in orbx EU with the Q400, and about 28-30 with the 737NGX

Where did you get fs global from and did you pay 50 quid? seems a lot but I really would like to upgrade to FTX global and FTX Vector in the future and would like to get a mesh installed first.

As far as tweaks go I use nVidia Inspector's half v-sync, with the FSX internal lock @30fps, this gives me totally fluid, stutter free performance... I think Costa covers it in his guide. Of all the tweaks, this is the one that does the most, and truly transformed my sim experience. That and AffinityMask=14 for quad-cores, plus a reject threshold value (rather than BP=0) does great things for me, so I just set and forget, with no constant tweaking.

I also us nV Inspector to set 4xS + 2xSGSS for clean edges and no shimmer.

I know its been recommended, but I've never done an O&O Complete/Name defrag, as it takes so long, and just use the 'space' option, which can still take an age... I've never felt the need to use the complete name option.

Just Flight have a sale on ending on Monday 30th £12 for two of the selected Aircraft they have on offer. Does anybody have any experience of these aircraft? or at £12 for two should I just take a punt and keep my fingers crossed? I was thinking of the A340 500/600 and maybe the F-111

The other very important tweak is this.

[GRAPHICS]
HIGHMEMFIX=1

Don't forget this one , very important. ;)

Is the A340 from the F-lite range? If it is, they are very basic and easy to fly. You can be up in the air very quickly.

If you want a bigger airbus go for the following. Out of these I would go for CLS and then Wilco.

A330/A340/A380 by Wilco (payware)
A330/A340 by CLS (payware)
A330/A340/A380 by Simmer's Sky (payware)
A330/A340 by Thomas Ruth (freeware)
A380 by Project Airbus (freeware)
