Playing about with Anti-aliasing settings may improve sharpness but not by huge amounts.

Running at 1080p. I will play around with the settings. I will soon invest in some addons and some planes which I know will be better

Couple of quick questions for you experts-

Is there a setting somewhere which will makes my aeroplane start off as completely 'off' instead of loading up with everything started, idling and ready to go? I've had a look under "realism" but no joy.

When I turn all engines off and kill all power, I can hear (in my constellation at least) the sound of some starter motor, or something, continually ticking over. Is there a key combo for turning this off too?

Start your chosen flight with the default Cessna - then switch EVERYTHING off.

Then load the aircraft you want to fly - it should be in a cold and dark state.

Some addon aircraft come with a configurator tool that will lets you set their default starting state but not all.

Good plan, thanks. In the cessna i just turned off the magneto but it still has some form of power i think- what else do need to turn off? I've created. Key combination for 'engine auto shut down' but not sure if that is batteries et too..

switch the battery and alternator off too...two red switches right next to each other if memory serves

If you save the flight before loading the aircraft you wish to fly, you can set this flight as your default and every time you load the sim up, it is always in a cold & dark state.

No idea.. But the general trend is a 4.4 Overlocked Intel PC with a => 760 Nvidia.

Shall I hold fire until 6Ghz chips are the norm??

Doubt we'll see 6Ghz chips for quite a few years yet...the thermal limits of silicon chip construction and lack of any real competition from AMD in chip performance probably means Intel will head down the multi-core / CPU efficiency route rather than blistering GHz performance

I'm getting great FSX performance with 4670k @4.4 and GTX780, tried pushing my 4670k to 4.6 but it required silly voltage

FPS is a non issue for me now - even with all the addons I run and sliders almost maxed out I rarely see less than 30 FPS anywhere. OOM's are my only FSX enemy now

Just setting up the RealityXP GNS530 gauge on my addon aircraft right now.

Done a quick test with the RealAir Duke - adds such immersion not having to use the mouse to interact with the GPS

much fun!

Hi all,

So I finally got FSX looking better then it did following some advice I have been reading from this thread and through watching videos on YT.

Here are 3 screenshots I took on a flight from Newcastle to Gatwick my first proper flight. I still have lots to learn but its all in good fun.

I didn't prepare for the landing very well but didn't crash.
Need to get myself more addons e.g. planes and orbix etc

Hi Mark nice pics!
I'm interested to know what addons/settings you are using as I've take a grab from about the same place just off of the Spinnaker in Portsmouth and I'm missing some of the detail. As you can see compared to yours there are some buildings missing north west of the Spinnaker. It's not a biggie really just confused as to why.
I've got Pilots FS GLobal Mesh, Orbx Global Base, Orbx Vector and FTX EU ENG all installed.

What is your Autogen slider set to? - maybe his is set a notch or 2 higher

Also Vector has been known to remove some autogen to make way for it's roads, railways etc, but I don't think this should effect full fat FTX regions???

Autogen was on "me" level..or Dense

to the rest of the world...I'#ve just moved it to Extreme and it's still the same. It could be to do with Land Class I suppose,it depends on what other scenery addons Mark is using
