The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

The great thing about this game/simulation is that it's as complicated as you want it to be.

You can load up the default Cessna, full throttle down the runway and you'll take off.

Or you can do some fuel planning, route planning and make an afternoon of flying from airport to airport leaving the zone via the dedicated entry point and properly joining an airfield circuit.

I sold my Mac Pro 1.1 and monitor on an auction site.

I ordered a new monitor from OCUK and the service was excellent.

And I've got some other bits and bobs arriving tomorrow.

So I'll get round to building and installing this weekend. :D

Yesterday as a good day.

I put together my new PC and began then long journey of reinstalling everything.

I'm running Windows 7 off one SSD drive and will have FSX running off another.

The boot up time is amazingly fast compared to my old system.

So far so good.

Now in the past I've spend a lot of money on VFR scenery. I've got all of England and Ireland.

Do I install that or go for the ORBX Global and Vector? Which I couldn't afford this month anyway..

Congratulations on the new PC! Commiserations on the lengthy install!
I did bite the bullet and bought Pilots FSGlobal FTX mesh, FTX Global Base and FTX Global Vector. I also had ORBX Eng/Wales and Scotland. prior to that I had used the VFR scenery from just flight.
I have noticed a marked improvement everywhere and I'm not regretting the change to ORBX at all.

Either side of Badminton last night, I stated to install my VFR scenery.

This consists of South-West and Wales, Central and Northern England.

I also have East and West Ireland. I'll save the ORBX purchases for another day.

I've also installed:-

PMDG 777
iFly 737
Aerosoft Airbus

FSInn / FS CoPilot
FSUIPC (registered)

Pedals, Joystick and Throttle unit.

Tonight, I hope to install my UK2000 airports, and:

Majestic Dash-8
Lancair Legacy
Fraps
EFB Data provider
BN2 Islander

I followed Kosta's guide with the FSX.cfg and NVidia Inspector.

I'm sure by Saturday, I'll have my first full flight in ages. :p

There's been a couple of updates to the Dash over the last month (bug fixes mainly) so worth checking for updated version. A new Flybe livery has also been posted:

Thanks for that. :)

I have been trying to see if there's updates to my products.

I appreciate the good service from some stores where I can just download my stuff again, once logged in.

I wish I had a fibre connection.. :o

The BN2 Islander is still at 1.6 if that helps.

I bottled the full FSX reinstall when I moved to SSD because at the time I couldn't face the hassle of probably 40+Gb of download on a slow ADSL. I know the experts say a fresh install is best, but I just cloned the disk and everything appears OK.

Hi guys . Sorry to be slightly off topic , but does anyone know
if there is a PDF version of Nick N,s Bible available ?
I've had a look and come up blank.
Thanks in advance Mick

So I'm back where I left off albeit with a better PC.

I went for my own build mid-range mini-ATX system.

The only thing I haven't yet done is log onto Vatsim.

OLD PC/MAC
Matching Pair Intel Xeon X5365 8M Cache 3.00 GHz 1333 MHz FSB
Mac 20" Cinema Display Monitor
8GB (8X1GB) RAM DDR2 SDRAM 667 ECC 240 PIN
2 x ATi Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCIe Video Card
1 x 250 GB HDD For Windows 7 64bit Proffesional
120 GB SSD For Fsx

NEW PC
4670K @ 4.63 GHz air cooled
Asus Z87M-Plus
8 GB RAM
GeFoce GTX 750 Ti 2 GB
iiyama 24" monitor
Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
120 GB SSD for Windows
120 GB SSD for FSX

Everything seem stable. Temperatures get up to 70 oC.

Everything loads quicker. Everything is smoother. I can now fly the PMDG 777 out of UK2000 Glasgow without issue.

I re-installed my VFR scenery.

I re-installed most of what I had. I've left out some planes I never used. I'm now down to 3.7 GB of space left on my SSD.

I'm still using my networked FSX setup, and offloading REX, FS Inn and Aivlasoft EFB to my 2nd PC.

Happy days. :D

Well it turns out my machine wasn't stable at 4.63 GHz.. :p

I took off in the T7 from Glasgow and halfway through the flight it crashed. [My PC, not the plane].

So we're now running a smidgen over 4.5 GHz. I had a half day off this morning to take my cat to the vet and then found some time to do my test flight from Glasgow to Cardiff. All seemed well.

I just need to run a few more test flights on Vatsim using the above and then I'll be 'back in the game'..

How's the flightSim world with you?
