The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Just tried a flight with ORBX set to UK only and using REX and now I just get a normal CTD instead of the out of memory error. Next a flight with no REX but maybe tomorrow, I'm FSX'd out for today!

I'm really struggling to fly out of Gatwick in the T7 with my current setup. I tried without REX and not changing views but it still dies on me. I've tried lowering the cloud resolution options in REX and it still dies. So I'm thinking it has to be to do with ORBX mostly now. Though I am yet to turn off AI traffic, which I think I have at 75%, and road traffic which is at 50% I think, so these changes might do the job.

I was told that road traffic as well as boats is one of the biggest causes of problems and so I have mine both set to 10%.

Interesting read that site. I have tweaked something in my registry, something mentioned on Kostas site, but that didn't help. I'm going to reduce my AI everything to nothing and try that first. I've got lines in my FSX.cfg file limiting the amount of buildings and trees as with ORBX scenery and the graphics option set to dense in FSX there are an insane amount in my opinion. I did have my LOD_RADIUS at 6.5 which I reduced to 5.5 but it looks like I might have to drop that back to the default of 4.5 when using the PMDG T7. That'll be the last thing I drop down though, I rather have crisper scenery than all the AI stuff.

I'll take a look into that FSPS FSX Fiber Accelerator, can't say I've heard of it before.

Yesterday evening I managed to get shot of my OOM errors. All I've had to do is turn off AI traffic. The highest I saw the memory get to was 3.8gig. Close but not the magic 4gig marker. This was also with my LOD_RADIUS at 6.5. If I alter anything to lower it it'll be the LOD_RADIUS down to 5.5 as I think it was peaking at 3.6gig with it set to that.

My issue now is a CTD related to g3d.dll, great. A little reading and it looks like FSUIPC fixes this issue. Is there still a free version out there these days? I used to have this addon for FSUIPC, but I only used the free bit of it, I never registered it / purchased the full item.

I'm just wondering if the part of FSUIPC that fixes one of the major causes of the g3d.dll ctd is only included in the licensed version. Won't hurt to try the free version first though so glad there is still one available as I've spent a little too much on FSX recently.

D/loaded and installed FSUIPC4 and all looking good so far! I've had it freeze on me twice in flight so far where I think it'd normally crash but whilst it freezes for a second it then carries on. Haven't gone over 3.65gig on the ram front either so might put some AI back into the mix :)

I would most certainly be reducing traffic. I fly out of UK2000 Gatwick with the NGX with ORBX Eng and Global on hybrid mode but traffic is set at 29 for Airlines and 0 for everything else. Failing that might be worth looking at DX10 as it supposedly lowers VAS usage.

Lol too slow and glad it seems to be sorted.

I've just gone back to fsx from P3D V2.3. Visually it's stunning but performance is awful!

Images of most of some of the small runways that come with the ORBX Papua scenery. I'm not sure I've found all of them yet and you only get a screen shot map of where they are, they don't actually have any airport ICAO codes and you can't load your aircraft into any of them.

Few more pics showing the rather extreme angles some of the little strips are at. Orbx really should have leveled them a bit better as whilst i appreciate they go uphill they don't appear to slope down the side of the hill as much from what I saw on TV. The one in the pics was so steep that even with 100% throttle the porter would not move forwards. Luckily I found pumping the prop pitch worked to turn me.

Dumb question- I press plus and minus to zoom in and out in the various views. I press R and then the simulation rate changes with plus and minus. How to I turn off the simulation rate change and go back to changing the zoom level because pressing R or Shift R or Control R doesn't do anything :(

Then today I had a go in my Ice Plane Dash 7 that I don't get out in too much:
