The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

played this when i was at a mates, liked it quite a bit but didnt end up buying it, this thread just inspired me to.

also how many of you guys have all the proper flight stuff? like the handles/controllers for the game??? ive got on joy stick lying around but may buy a proper set if its really necaserry?

I've always wanted to buy a yoke & rudder pedals etc, but it's never been that HIGH on my list of priorites, so I've still never played with one.

I have a joystick with twist rudder and a throttle slider. It's enough to get by with. I mostly do commercial flights, i.e. with the autopilot doing the majority of the flying, so have no real need for a full rig up. (Plus I don't have the room :( )

I used to get by with a £30 joystick but got hold of a dedicated flightstick, throttle and rudder pedals a couple of months ago and they make a big difference. Also use my laptop to display moving maps and flight plans.

Soya, do you have a website or perhaps a thread where you've done a write up about your rig? Just looking at your sig, it looks an absolute beast. I'd love to know how much it cost etc.

Are the above screenshots as you see them in game? Do you have your FPS limited etc?

Would be great to hear from you!

My rig is higly specced as FSX is not the only thing I use, for instance, there is no need to have 2 GFX cards with FSX as it does not take advantage of SLI or Crossfire. However, it is handy when running at very high res, I run at 2560x1600 so having 2 GFX cards does help with memory resource management at that res. FSX mainly need CPU power, so the better and faster CPU you can get your hand on the better FSX will run. The screen shot you see above and on previous postings are indeed from game, however, not all run smoothly during live capture, ie very busy airport shots especially will not run smooth even on my rig but perhaps with future hardware it will. I tend to have FPS set at unlimited but force the full screen and windowed Vsyn at monitors max 60Hz.

For more information I would HIGHLY recommend you read through this thread and the links posted in them. It is much info but if you want to get the most out of FSX and find out what you are getting into then at least you will have some bearings.

Best of luck with your setup.

If you are starting out, stick with a basic joystick, preferably one that has throttle control. Once you feel you are getting the flight bug and are enjoying the sim world, then by all means expand your hardware over time. Again, this thread has got many pointers and suggestions at hardware for FSX, best to read it.

Can you post the settings you use for the ENB mod please Soya?

Changing REX's sky theme also has a great influence on how ENB effects the lighting, which I often change to get different effects. I mostly prefer dark blue skies though, get best results with ENB. Also changing time of the day as an effect on ENB, ie early morning late afternoon etc.

Hope that helps.

Couple of shots I done whilst testing out running a FSX server, I know not any flashy graphics yet but thought they may be worth uploading.

Guys I was wondering if you could help me.

I have flight sim x with acceleration, I also have Traffic X installed.

I bought ground environment x europe to improve the quality of ground textures but I cant get it to work, or it doesnt appear to be working. The manual says this...

"GEX is completely safe to use with such addons however please SET THE MODE or CENTRAL interface SWITCH for the product to OFF before installing the GEX textures from the interface. After GEX textures are installed you may turn the mode switch ON and use other addons of that nature in their areas without any issues from GEX . It is suggested you set their mode switch to OFF when flying a GEX covered area to ensure no interference with GEX from such products."

Does that mean that traffic x is conflicting with it? I dont know what the instructions mean, do I uninstall traffic x first then reinstall gex?

Thanks for any help

REX doesn't do scenery textures; it's more limited to clouds, water and some runway/taxiway textures plus some lighting effects. It won't change what a hill or town looks like.

My scenery looks leagues better than uk_vipers screens, I think its working will post some screens.

Does that look like its working?

Also is it common for fsx not to stress the gpu at all? I havent heard it spin up once while playing the game, kinda worried its getting hot.

Hi,

I didn't know there were so many simmers on here. I've been hiding in the (flight sim!) closet for a while. I only ever fly on VATSIM, I control on there too. I run FSX with the rig in my sig, but it's nowhere near as good as the OP's screenies.

Here's one of the better screenies I've captured:

Will defo follow this thread, and get around to reading all 19 pages of it!

Cheers,

FB..

Edit, just realised I have no sig!
