The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I've been watching all the tutorial videos for the FMC, feel like I've got an idea how it works, I can at least program a flightplan into it. What I'm wondering though, the video gives a website (flightaware) which gives you the IFR route for real world (for example, LOOP6 DAG KEPEC2 for LAX - Vegas). Is there anything like this for europe at all?

Those screenshots by ringo747 are outstanding, there's certainly a couple where they look like the real thing.

Just a quick question on graphics card. My ATI 4870 needs replacing (cooling fan has died) and I'm trying work out the best replacement for my current setup. I don't play anything else other than FSX so I guess it doesn't have to be a high end card. Any advice as it's a couple years since I bought a card and I'm a bit out of touch!

Specs:
i5 750 @ 3.8Ghz
4GB ram
Single monitor @ 1920 x 1080 (although may add second monitor at later date)

Hello fellow simmers,

Enjoy this new series of shots (and a video if you are interested) showing off the lovely twin GA from Carenado, the C337H Skymaster. There is a very good and detailed review of her at avsim.com, check under aircraft reviews.

Please enjoy this selection of shots from the Master of the Sky.

If you would like to see my latest video featuring the Skymaster then click on the video below, best watched at full screen 1080p, it also features the excellent Grand Canyon scenery from Blue Sky Scenery (freeware). If you are unable to view the video due to restrictions, then please check my video channel as I have uploaded the same video with a different soundtrack which has no country/area restrictions.

Cheers all.

Looking for tips on mods/ add-ons. Just really getting started with this. Have got Rex 2.0 currently. Don't mind paying for add ons but good freeware is always welcome.

Have got a track-ir 5 that I managed to get off ebay so that is adding to the experience. I am very much a beginner though.

Having a little trouble with default runways and the markings popping in and out. Posted on other thread. Will try take a video of this and upload at some point. Not sure if it could be down to xfire or forcing v-sync or triple buffering via D3D Overrider. Will have to try some troubleshooting as it is quite an annoying problem.

Soya, you're pics are stunning. I used FSX for a long time, but then found I didn't have time for it. Now I do and am looking to get back into it.

I am currently running the rig in my sig and the experience is not that great tbh. What sort of performance increase would I see in going from the sig rig to an i5 2500k at 4.8Ghz, 8GB RAM and one of the new GTX560i 448 cards?

Also, does FSX benefit from being installed on an SSD?

Are you using DX10 preview mode?

If so it is likely that to be causing the runway markings problem. Apparently, it is easy to correct by editing the AFCAD file to include a small section of...arse can't remember... either concrete or asphalt taxi way anywhere to the airport.

Got the hang of the FMC now, I'm really enjoying using it now that I know how to. Only 1 thing, the plane seems quite daft in trying to follow the plan, after making a turn it quite often see-saws left and right of the pink line route thing a few times before actually hitting it. Is this normal?

I saw your pics in the avsim review soya, will checkout the vid when i get a minute :) I bought the C337H a while back and it's a great little plane for both VFR and IFR GA flights.

The Vatsim UK Openskies 2011 event took place last night.

My experiences:-

I'd booked Bristol to Cork at 1720z using my ATR72-500 on FSX. I was ill-prepared and hadn't set my FMC up correctly. With the 1001 things you need to do pre-flight, this flight ended up being a flight bound for FAIL instead of Cork. I ended up shamefully disconnecting and making sure I didn't balls up again.

I had then booked Dublin to Bristol. Same plane. This flight was excellent and my first real VATSIM IFR, airport to airport with full ATC, ILS etc and it felt good..

I then thought I'd build on my success and take the same plane back to Dublin. I thought I'd done everything correctly, but one basic check I had missed out on was my aileron/rudder/elevator check. Turns out as I tried to rotate, nothing and I just ploughed off RW27. I ended up shamefully disconnecting and making sure I didn't balls up again, again..

So I tried it all again, and took off a treat, went on the BCN1X SID and got to Dublin, which by this time there was no ATC.. There was a Ryanair flight which arrived at the glideslope moments before I did, so I gave way and became #2.

There's still a learning curve. I've never done an ATC hold, my ATC speak in general could do with sharpening up and without my Aivlasoft EFB, I'm useless, so I could learn some manual skills.

Great stuff.

So I finally found a decent addon that my PC can run smoothly, this Katana is fantastic. Also recently got the freeware Duxford scenery, I come from near Duxford and have been on many occasions, it seems very accurate.

There is something a little different with the Katana, you have to keep up the maintenance of the plane such with huge detail right down to the type of oil, this is occupanied with full animations. It even gets dirtier as you fly and you have the option of cleaning it. Got a bit trigger happy with the snaps on this one, enjoy :D

All the things on the floor - tools, bucket, oil tray have individual animations from the menu.

Engine is animated too, oil filler cap etc :)

Thanks for the compliment. It is hard to say how much of a performance increase you will see but I think, once you have it properly installed & tweaked (which will take time), it should run very well. FSX is especially CPU hungry, so the higher the @GHz per core, the better FSX & addons will run. Also having a decent Nvidia GTX card will help. As for installing FSX on a SSD, that should also make a difference. I would recommend you do some more research though before you spend that kind of money on a upgrade, I think you will see a substantial increase but again, you gotta weight the value vs performance issue here.

Indeed she is a lovely plane to fly, hope you have enjoyed the video. I put much time and effort into them (they take much longer to make then a simple screen shot) but hopefully they are enjoyed by many others.
