The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Yea it looks like it's loaded. Make sure you download the free overdrive upgrade pack and select a HD theme to load.

Set FSX to the clear skys theme then load the rex weather engine addon for it to update you with realtime weather.

Pretty sure there is a manual pdf file included which should give plenty of info plus there is also the rex forums. This topic is something you need to be aware of if you are going to run rex HD clouds http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/forums/index.php?/topic/429-please-read-hd-resolution/

Also ensure on your option page, the texture settings are Maxed when saving themes. Unless of course you are having FPS/stutter problems, then lower them.

PS. Once are happy with certain settings, ie taxi ways, sun etc, and you are not going to change them in the foreseeable future, then remove the ticks from the option page on whichever option you are not going to be changing, this saves a great deal of time when saving & altering your themes.

Hi folks. I'm not one for full blown instrument panels, 3 screens, crazy yokes and all that stuff, because frankly, I'm not rich and neither do I have the space. However, I can't even enjoy FSX at all, because it doesn't want to use my Nvidia GT550m. The game keeps picking the IGP, the Intel HD 3000 graphics. Even if I right click the game's .exe and click "run with Nvidia High Performance blah blah blah", the game, 99% of the time, runs on Intel HD 3000 graphics, which means low frames, an low settings.

Now, if I am by any sort of miracle fortunate enough to get it to start up using the Nvidia GT550m, the aircraft preview window and the game itself (when the environment is loaded) is completely black. I can hear the engines, I can hear ground control, etc, but I can't see ****.

Game is patched. Latest video drivers. Tried compatibility options. Tried running as administrator, even though I am the admin. Tried window mode. Added fsx.exe to Nvidia whitelist, etc.

HELP PLEASE!? This is driving me nuts. From the flights that I have done, with reasonable frames, I very much enjoyed it. Not flown on a flight sim in years, so I'd like to be able to get back into it and enjoy it with some decent settings.

Can you flick between full screen and windowed mode using Alt+Enter? Sounds like your graphics card probably isn't up to much. Try the configuration tool I posted above and see what happens.

ukfx, you could try disabling the igp in bios, and/or disabling whatever display its set to in windows
dx10 or something makes the game run on the wrong screen too, sometimes

gonna try that bat file now :D

doesnt seem to work :(

changed it to start F:\"Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\"FPS_Limiter.exe /r:D3D9 /f:20 /x:OFF /l:OFF "F:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe"

fps limiter is in the fsx folder, and it comes up "using direct 3d render hook" then "starting fsx"

fsx loads, but fps isnt capped :/

the fsx screen where you choose aircraft comes up with "new fps limit 20", but ingame im still getting 60, sigh :(

there is 2 screeens on this pc, would that have any effect?

start F:\"Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\"FPS_Limiter.exe
Is that where you have the FPS_Limiter program installed?

These files

Changing DX10 preview has resolved the issue whereby Intel HD would always be used. However, if I disable DX10 preview, it uses the Nvidia GPU, an thus, black screen.

Now to solve the mystery of the black screen. I'm pretty sure this GT550m could run this at game on High settings pretty well. Intel HD doesn't do a bad job of playing it at medium to be honest, but obviously I want more from the game and my hardware.
