The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Changing DX10 preview has resolved the issue whereby Intel HD would always be used. However, if I disable DX10 preview, it uses the Nvidia GPU, an thus, black screen.

Now to solve the mystery of the black screen. I'm pretty sure this GT550m could run this at game on High settings pretty well. Intel HD doesn't do a bad job of playing it at medium to be honest, but obviously I want more from the game and my hardware.

Not a chance in a million. ;)

It might be old, but it's somehow more demanding than Crysis. :p

OK, well since I can run it relatively well on medium, if I actually get to utilise my GT550m, are you saying that it's not better than a Intel HD 3000 IGP? :S

Note, I did a repair on the game last night with the disc and all I ended up with everytime I tried to run the game was, a Fatal Error has Occurred. I uninstalled the game and the acceleration expansion pack. Looks like I'll have to reinstall it, but i have very little hope of it going well.

EDIT: If it wasn't for me having so much hardware or so many games reliant on Windows, I'd of jumped shiped to Linux mint by now. Windows is crap, an Microsoft's own games are nothing but hassle.

Time to install the game a 3rd time. Oh, it worked by the way. Without Acceleration installed. I think that Expansion Pack is probably the cause of the issues. I know it's caused many issues for people.

Won't buy be buying anymore Windows related stuff for a good 2 years. Then bye bye Windows.

You will find at the end of the day that adding a GTX580 would add little whereas a better CPU will for FSX.

If you get it working, try this to improve FPS.

The load FSX put's on a CPU running @ 4Ghz not bad for a old game.

I didn't at any point say FPS was a problem. I don't have a gaming PC anymore because I sold it, but I recently got a Dell XPS L702X, with Core i5-2540m @ 2.6Ghz ~ 3.1/3.3, GT550m, 6GB of 1333Mhz DDR3, etc. That link you sent me was unhelpful anyway. I have 2 cores and 4 threads, an cards which aren't listed. Desktop oriented, obviously.

The problem, as I said before, was the black screen. I've reinstalled Flight Simulator X for a 4th time. Time to see if I can get round any problems.

Can someone please point out to me, why the last 2 times I reinstalled FSX, Microsoft Games isn't showing up in the Start Menu? It's highly annoying and inconvenient. Does it do that by default?

I'm going to patch FSX now, an then install Accerlation. I still think Accerlation is the cause of the problem.

IRIS aircraft available for $10 here

I've got the Vulcan, which is a beast, but not reduced here. Plenty of people have the A-10 if I remember.

Might have a dabble with the F-22, or maybe the F-14 and pretend I'm Maverick. Though I'm definitely taller.

Cheers,

Rich

Problem solved. No black screen at the moment.

Medium High on 40fps (stable), seems pretty decent to me for this CPU/Card.

Finally. :D

I was referring to the fact that if you start cranking up the settings, a stronger CPU would help FSX more than a stronger GPU. ;)

Lol fair enough. Sometimes I miss my 3.6Ghz OC'd Phenom II X4 955BE. Oh well. At least I can move around the room now that the big ass Antec 1200 case and other stuff have gone :D ^^

Time to flyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!

By the looks of things you've already done this but if you're installing Acceleration there's no need to apply the patches. So in theory your install should have gone like this:

1. FSX gold (2 dvds) - install -activate - run
2. FSX Acceleration (1 dvd) - install - run.

Anyway it looks like you're flying now so good luck.

fsx's ability to annoy you is redicously high, Its my dad who plays it, not me :x, i prefered il2 for the feeling of flight, and i can fly over pretty landscapes rather than vomit :)

fsx does showcase what a strong community can do, really well :)

The initial feedback on the new activesky is that it is totally brilliant and goes even better than REX! I would imagine that REX Essential could go one better but who knows. Will be keeping an eye on developments for sure.

First time I installed everything, I installed the 2 game discs and then the Acceleration add-on. Then I patched FSX with SP1. I tried to install SP2, but it claimed that Acceleration had it, so it seemed only SP1 was necessary.

Last night, I installed FSX, then patched it using FSX SP1, an then installed the expansion pack. All seems to work now.

The reason I reinstalled it, is because the only instance I could find of people getting a black screen was when someone mentioned on a forum (google'd it), that a third party aircraft caused the black screens. I figured, Acceleration adds aircraft, therefore there may be a link. Uninstalled everything, re-installed it in order, an problem solved.

Obviously I won't know for certain if Acceleration was the culprit, but at least it's fixed now.

Bored of all the usual FPS stuff out at the moment and fancy a change....
Reckon FSX and a stick is worth getting just for a bit of something different?

Truthfully? It can be a pain in the proverbials.

Seems incredibly poorly written code that can leave you utterly frustrated.

It's saving grace is a community full of enthusiasts willing to put in the time and effort to help it realise it's potential.

Pick up a copy cheap - have a tinker - get some third party Add-ons and you'll be hooked.

Are the visuals as stunning as they look in the pictured? Ive had a go of the demo and it looks crap! its fun to fly around though but a bit impossible with only a keyboard, you cant make any small movements on it and end up holding left or right for too long and careering into the ocean.
