The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Good man!

You just need to tinker a bit to get it looking as nice as it could do. You've a virtually identical system to me, so your PC is certainly capable of it.

Happy flying!

Oddly using FPS_Limiter makes my FSX run far worse. I just use a locked of 45 which seems to work well on my system. At Seattle I drop to 7fps using FPS_Limiter, without it I am hitting 20fps and my sim is so much smoother.

ill get used to the flying first! after that ill concentrate on making it look good, and even after that i might buy myself some of the visual add ons!

It's here at last the best sale of the year of the best Scenery so says ME

The annual Orbx Post-Christmas Sale is now on with all products in their downloadable line up reduced by a massive 33% - that's a total of 46 products! Australian, New Zealand and North American regions and airports, the Lancair and FSX Go all drastically reduced in this holiday season sale.

Fill your boots.

They are all very good but it depends if you want a airport or a whole region.

The new airports (the higher priced ones) make use of the new tech that Orbx has been working on like People Flow moving people going about the airports loading the bags ect.
Nature flow moving trees in the wind & leaves falling from the trees.
Vehicle Flow custom cars that drive up to the airport ect.

They are more for the GA low & slow type of aircraft otherwise you would miss all this.

But with Orbx you get lots of add extra things for free like AI Traffic for the whole of the AU regions & free airports.

So back to your question I would buy a region first & then add airports to it I have the whole of Australia & Port Macquarie airport + all there freeware airports.

You can also get a freeware pack of over 100 airports/airfields for Australia.

You can try two large demos of there scenery here

But like I said they are more for the low & slow flyer.

I am torn between getting a new region as I feel you get more for your money or to get a group of airpots closes to each other so I can hop to & from them.

Decided to treat myself and took their 3 latest AU airports, Moorabbin, Wollongong and Alice Springs.

Got full Australia v4 & nearly all their other Airports already. Oddly enough, I done very little flying around the area but like all these FS addons, they will last for many years to come.

Happy flying all.

Has any nVidia users tried the latest beta drivers? I am using these with the latest version of Inspector which includes a new in game fps limiter! So far the performance is a serious improvement for me and I don't think I have ever seen the sim so smooth. I have the limit set to 30fps in inspector and it jumps around 25-35 with silky smooth motion. Worth a try!

When did the latest drivers come out?

I downloaded the latest drivers when I installed my 560Ti just before xmas and my performance has indeed been silky smooth.

They are working good for me thanks ringo747 getting a extra 5 fsp must be taking the load of the CPU some how as my Video cards are way over powered for FSX.

When running fraps & recording it's a lot smoother aswell.

290.53-desktop-win7-winvista-64bit-international-beta is then one I am using you also need to update inspector that takes 5 secs.

The Inspector limiter worked well for a while for me but I think still using the external limiter is better. The drivers themselves seem to offer a good performance boost.

Just a question regarding scenery add ons.

I have REX. I obviously understand that takes care of clouds, sky, water and so on.

Now I want to replace my default scenery.

OK, say I add GEX. That will take care of the ground textures like grass and so on. Can I then add UTX? Hopefully that will take care of landclass over a vast area (Europe).

However, can I then add smaller more detailed add ons for particular areas like London and New York over the top of this? For example, could I buy Aerosoft's VFR London X and replace UTX with this in the london area?

Also add on airports to this and so forth.

Generally yes, you can influence which scenery is displayed by changing the order of the entries in the Scenery Library. I have UK photo scenery and then on top of that I have VFR airfields and various other 3d packages, for example ANO (Air Navigation Obstacles).

The short answer is yes. I have UTX (Europe) but not GEX. The biggest plus point for me is the accurate placement of roads which allows me to navigate by them for VFR flying. There are a few reviews on the web, here's a link to one:

There shouldn't be an issue with adding specific scenery (such as airports) over the top such as the one you mention. For UK Airports also have a look at Gary Summons work at UKScenery it's really very good. He did have a sale on before Xmas but it looks like its finished. Nevertheless I still reckon its good value at the full price. http://www.uk2000scenery.com/

Anyone with the PMDG 737 NGX having ILS issues? I've patched up to the latest (including after installing the 6/700 add on - will pop up some BA 736 pics a bit a later).

Just had a problem trying to ILS land at Gatwick R/W 26L - no ILS glide scope or lateral bearing - though was receiving the correct morse code through NAV1 and 2 radios - but the identifier was out (ie should have been something like IWW, and was something else). The the CRS bearing changed...

Actually, just been checking out some real world stuff - looks like 08L is on the same freq and had the identifier (IGG) that made an appearance....

Any idea what caused this and how to get around it?

Cheers,

Rich
