The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

I've got FSX (gold) and I'm just wondering what addons people use at the moment or recommend?

I've got:
REX 1 + 2
EGLC - FSX FS2004 UK2000, London City Xtreme
Aerosoft - Mega Airport London Heathrow X v1
VFR London

As you might be able to tell I like flying around London and going from anywhere -> Heathrow...
I also like doing full flights with AP.

Anything else worth getting?

Colasanto that scenery looks amazing mate, im not sure wheather to try UTX or just try one of the UK scenery packs

Cavallino- I like you am learning my way around FSX, just treated myself to a thrustmaster hoax so still trying to learn what all the button do lol. Wanna try and find a good free little prop plane to start with i think dont like the default ones mainly due to the cockpit looking not to good and the camera angles are not the best either

Guys, I need help with my FSX please.

Everything's been going fine. A few days ago I was approaching NY with Manhattan X scenery. My system threw a paddy and crashed. I restarted and started another flight only to disciver that the pop up windows like ATC and kneeboard are miniature and garbled. Screenie shows what I mean.

It's doing my head in. So far I have cleared the fsx.cfg file and restarted to make a new one and reinstalled GFX drivers. All to no avail. I have'nt reinstalled FSX yet as I have many add-ons and it's a hassle re-installing them. Can you just copy out the add-on and scenery folders and paste them back in following a re-install?

Fixed my problem. I deleted fsx.cfg from my documents instead of appdata. All working fine now :)

I decided to go with GEX after much deliberating and which one, read a lot of good reviews and extremely impressed with it myself.

I just have Europe at the moment as I don't currently plan on flying outside of the EU.

I'm also on a 30day trial for http://www.aivlasoft.com/products/efb/index.html and have to say it's so amazing :p

I would like to get a secondary monitor and networked PC hooked up to my FSX. I'm feeling the disadvantages of one monitor at the moment.

For flying IFR, especially on VATSIM, EFB is great. One really stuping thing, I don't mind admitting I missed, is that you can paste a route directly into EFB when you click on the Select button into the white box, not the greyed out ATS Routing box on the main screen.

So when I was pointed in the direction of SimSRD, I can now have up to date UK routes I can just paste into EFB.

A 2nd monitor (and 3rd) is a great investment. I tend to have EFB or Plan G on one, VC on the middle and radios and flight controls on the 3rd.

I had a coffee at Gloucester Airport this weekend and also went into the Transair shop. I bought an excellent book on IFR Flying Techniques. I also used the Saitek yoke, throttles and pedals they have set up which has made me want all that now.

Thanks for that mate, might look into that for sure. Can i actually install this to a different location to my fsx install? I know some of them seem to only work from what i have read when installed in the main fsx directory but im looking to put all my addons like rex on a different hd all together to save some space

Thanks again

Does anyone here fly for any virtual airlines? Been considering it, but I'm quite laid back and some look quite serious. I'm not on VATSIM either - to be honest that all looks quite intimidating.

So I'm going to make the plunge and get a second monitor as I seriously need one for FSX :p

I already have a 24" LED 3D 120hz Monitor from BenQ and I love it. So was thinking of just getting a normal BenQ LED 21.5" monitor for EFB and any extras i need to assist me flying in FSX. This was my choice: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-034-BQ and SO cheap too!

However I'm now thinking, maybe a touch screen monitor be serve me better? They're a lot more expensive and the quality doesn't seem as good. What do you guys think on this?

@toString. I'm honestly not too sure, I know REX covers all my airport ground textures and I only have GEX-E.

@Liam. Hi mate, yes you can install many addons in their own place with links to FSX. If you use steam mate, add me and we can chat :)

Probably a stupid question, but if you have REX and VFR or airport pack, I assume FSX 'knows' to use the VFR pack /airport pack instead of REX for that area?

Are you getting REX confused with GEX/UTX? If so, normally it does, but you can prioritise in scenery library. Just move your vfr's and the like to the top. Once fsx comes across terrain with no vfr, it goes down the list and uses UTX/GEX.

RE Vatsim: I agree, it is intimidating, but break through that and it's very rewarding. All these controllers are virtually qualified and everyone has to start somewhere with flying online.

I started using it in September last year.

I consider myself a novice pilot and can get by with most things. I haven't done holding patterns, and I haven't done anything too complicated like a transatlantic or military style flight.

If you need any assistance with the basics, let me know.

Has anyone tried Active Sky 2012 yet? seems like it has got good reports, And I would like a better weather program.

It also includes textures that most people are saying are on par with REX, so sounds like it could be a winner

Yep I'm with BA Virtual - very good but you have to fly once every 30 days which I sometimes find difficult!

I had a look at the website and it looks very professional. Impressive that they've got an official tie-up with the real airline. I've put an application in so we'll see if that goes anywhere. :)

REX does weather very good. Active Sky always did weather BETTER but never included textures and I didn't fancy the faff of REX textures with AS Weather.

However now 2012 AS has come out, it does look awesome but I brought REX a while ago and it does weather quite well so I'm not fussed on buying another program and switching them out.

My brain told me today that I will not be getting a second monitor as I need to save for my holiday. Tsk :p
