Other than converting ALL my .avi movies to .mp4 (and the like), as I have quite a few 720p movies I'd like to be able to watch whilst I'm on the train etc... whats the best DIVX/XVID .avi movie player on the market??...

Preferably Free :)

(ooo just noticed... 5K posts and counting!!! :D )

I feel like I'm being completely retarded again but I'm trying to root my phone and I've tried about 20 times now to start it in fastboot mode and I cannot make it do it. Following the instructions and numerous youtube videos, phone is powered off, hold down the menu key (bottom right) and plug in the USB cable whilst still holding the key. How hard can it be?! I never get a blue light. I can get a green light if I do the same but with the back button but I've no idea what mode that is. Each time it just goes into charging mode.

Any ideas?

Menu Button = Blue / Fast Boot
Return Button = Green / SEUS Update / Flashing

If you have any problems let me know.

Think I'm just going to give up :p I didn't realise I couldn't get into fastboot mode if my phone was locked/branded. So I attempted to debrand it using your guide on the previous page and it errors when attempting to flash saying I need to enable debug/unknown sources which I've double checked are both enabled.

Annoying but I'm convinced I'll break it if I keep messing.

Connected my Arc to my Laptop today and the 'Companion' software fired up and 'finally' told me there was an update for my Phone's OS...

20mins later I'm rokin 2.3.3 Gingerbread 3.0.1.A.0.145 :cool::cool:

The Farcebook integration is okay, but now to write home about!!... I'm still playing with Go Launcher EX anyhew!! :D

One disappointing thing about this phone must be the toughness of the screen. I have one here and the scratches on the screen are terrible, just from being in pockets. My Desire has been utterly abused and there is next to no screen damage (apart from the chip where I dropped it!). If you own an Arc I'd say a screen protector is definitely needed which would be a no no for me buying one - I don't want cases or screen protectors, they completely detract from how good the phone looks.

Mine came with a Screen Protector in the box!!... first thing I did was put it on!!

Ah cool, I think this one was supplied fitted (I didn't get a retail box etc) - you wouldn't notice it had a protector until you look closely at the edges, and it's stuck on really well!

Really impressed with the camera, I would seriously consider one of these phones as my main handset now I know the screen protector is scratched rather than the screen on this one. However the dev scene and dual core (not so much now but later) sways me towards the SGS2.

they did the same on the x10 and there was tonnes of people moaning about there screen scratching then going quiet after they finally actually looked at it after being repeatedly told that it was just a/the protector

the screen underneath should be the same sort of mineral glass everyone else uses

Mine did as well. :D

How is the battery performing after the update for everyone? I have read one report of it lasting up to 4 days after the update. Mines seems to average about 2 days now with medium / heavy use.

Those who put the screen protector in the box on your phone - you now have two screen protectors installed. The Arc comes with one preinstalled (and so invisible that I thought it was part of the screen). A lot of people on XDA have done the same thing and installed the spare screen protector without realising it was a spare.

I just removed the preinstalled one on mine and the screen looks and feels much better now. :)

I've not really noticed any improvement or worsening of the battery!.. but I use 3G Watchdog and Juice Defender (set to Aggressive) and have always got 3(ish) days...

Just took a close look... and I think I should say 'Derp' now!... looks like theres one on there already, and I've put the one from the box on top!..:D
