***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I went looking for a key quest person and couldn’t find them. After running around I finally narrowed their location down to… inside a toilet cubicle.

Do I wait or just go on in? Asking for a friend

I just opened the door and they were standing there unperturbed at my lack of toilet etiquette. I think they must have just finished.

don't skip anything, even the cutscene refers to you being a pervert and she remembers it

game development is just lazy these days.

that game probably had better ai too... and less loading screens

Zero crashes here using dlss mod, at least just the upscaling aspect of it. If you're using special k? There might be a conflict especially combined with FG

If you go in the comments every single person is different, it affects some and a certain change works but doesn't affect others or others it does but a different fix works... It's strange.

My crashing issues are 100% the DLSS3/FG mod - works flawlessly albeit choppy AF without it...

Comments on the mod mention it a lot too so messing with the config to try and find a settled solution but it's not looking good thus far.

Yeh it's why I haven't tried it yet. The frame gen seems to have an issue with taking off and loading to a new area.

AI was better back then. Devs put more time in to it and there are barely any real AI programmers left in the games industry, so it's now more something done on the side and "it'll do". Especially now with the boom in the AI business.

Maybe one day someone can get ChatGPT level AI in a game :D

The thing I notice from that video is the reflective mirror, still bugs me how many "modern" games dont have your reflection visible in mirrors.

This is exactly what happens, I have seen some say it needs to be capped at 62 FPS as when it goes above that on the load screen something happens causing it to crash but not tried that yet.

The biggest issue with the game is the engine it’s just not up to the job really. Bethesda need to either move to something more modern or massively update what they have.

A lot of things seem to regress in gaming unfortunately.

Gaming is all about money why would developers invest in new technologies when people will just buy the crap they produce in the millions. If people stopped buying I’m sure we would see huge leaps in technology within the games.

At least Starfield has some reflective surfaces and surfaces you can see through... this was something that was missing from CP2077 and it bugged me tbh

Yeah, I mean the mirror thing is a small thing really but its just something which bugs me in an RPG, I go to all these lengths to create a character and background, I'm told about how immersive and realistic things are in a game and yet all of a sudden all my characters are vampires who are invisible in mirrors :D

One of the things that's annoyed me with the dialogue more than a few times now is how it doesn't react to things you've done. I went through a history museum (as part of a quest) and I was still getting "I've never heard of this before" type dialogue lines when talking about things it had gone over. Or things I'd read in books etc.

Most engines like Unreal are designed mainly for graphics. But Bethesda games tend to have a huge CPU component as well, as they track NPCs etc. Add to that the lack of licence fees being forked out, and the better control over it, are why Bethesda go the way they do. And the issue is a lot more to do with the game being written for the next generation of AMD graphics cards than it is about optimisation.

But...

I'm playing on a 2080 with most things o medium and upscaling off (that's the main thing that crashes the system). It could look better, but I'm here for the gameplay. It's a cliché, and a lot of people who say it don't mean it. But I do. But it's nice to think that in five years time it will look great on whatever I have then. I mean, I still regularly play Skyrim, and even occasionally launch Morrowind. (OK, that has 4k upscaled graphics and MGEx...)

I think it’s hard to put much stock into user reviews anymore. Between fanboys and review bombers it’s almost impossible to get anything objective.

I’m really enjoying it, even if it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I’ll have 100s off hours in this by the time I’ll eventually uninstall it and get my moneys worth at least tenfold.
Oi! You take your logical rational thinking elsewhere sunshine! This is a place for gpu racism and opinions based on not owning the things you're fighting to the death over! And don't you forget it!

(P.S. love you still doe m9)

It has always been better to try a game for yourself. In the 90s and early noughties it was from disks and CDs with games magazines. Now in the digital age it is possible to buy, try and refund if needed. Or you can get one month on game pass.

I do wish Steam would allow longer than two hours trials though. Especially if a game has unskipable intros, or very long shader compiling routines at start up.
Mate I used to rent game boy and megadrive games from the local 'paper shop', now that's how you test out games! So it's always been possible regardless of the medium. People just LOVE to moan despite not trying it themselves, BuT tEh InTeRnEtZ sAiD...

Yeah, YouTubers can generate so much drama and clicks from essentially nothing.

You see the video thumbnail and it’s like “STARFIELD… UNPLAYABLE?!?!!!?!” and its all just clickbait.

Although I will admit, watching those types of reviews of games which are legit terrible is great entertainment, the reviews of Gollum were hilarious..
You're only allowed to watch them IF you have adblock on and purposely skip past any inbuilt ad talk!

It's pathetic how SO many people believe it though, like grown men, there's a certain someone that frequents here and other places that legit takes it all for gospel with whatever the subject matter and frantically sits sweating refreshing each forum waiting for a way to big up AMD, I mean I'ma AMD guy, but this guy puts Nvidia trolls to shame! He was even banned in the past for it under a different name... The mods on another forum told me how they were sick of him, yet he bothered to rack up thousands of posts on a new account  :p  I mean what an EXCITING life he must lead eh!

The sad thing is though he's missing out on so many good games/hardware cause of it... Ignorance is bliss though I guess!

People are dunking on it because Microsoft stopped it being released on the PS5:

Also the whole pronouns aspect got overblown by some edgelords. Then the AMD/Bethesda stole the DLSS,etc.

Isn't it very taxing to have mirrors and reflections in games? I seem to remember years ago watching about how hard it is to do well, especially as light effects get better, it is very intensive work to accurately make a mirror work
