***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

I find that the game makes me feel physically sick/nauseous. I have reverted to playing the game in 3rd person to avoid this, but for thing like combat it's no good.
Any fov fixes/mods that you can recommend me?

I don't get the whole anger for games that are exclusive to this platform etc
PS have Granturismo, Xbox has whatever and then PC games that are not on consoles. Just get over it or if you want to play it go buy one of each platform. That's what they want, you and your money.
I think the issue is more that they always were multi platform, so why sell out and be a greedy scumbag now, and to all of people like MS...

People shouldn't have to own multiple consoles to play a game, the whole point of them is supposed to be that's it's an entry into gaming on the cheap vs needing a xxxx figure pc?

Exclusives that have always been exclusives, like rismo/forza/mario/sonic etc I get, but decided to screw over previous generations of fans of multiple games isn't nice is it.

As I said before though I in no way condone fake bombing the reviews of summit you haven't physically played though... That's just pathetic.

Drink lots of alcohol in game and in reality then play on a low grav planet in first person?

Best to check nexus mods. Might be an fov setting there to help you?

Xbox sales up 1000%, who knows how many gamepass subs, doesn’t sound like the worst idea.
Sure - by all metrics, it's doing great - and deservedly so. But GamePass as a sustainable service for Microsoft still has a big question mark hanging over it - subscription services need a constant influx of new content or people stop subscribing - look at the struggles Netflix and Disney are having.

And all that content is hellishly expensive - I'm not sure it's actually possible for any company to make a success of this. Netflix was doing fine when they were the only game in town but they've lost a lot of shows and movies to companies like Disney who mistakenly thought they could steal the market from Netflix (and are getting mauled on the stock market right now).

Yes, there are a good few of those. Par for the course of Bethesda games I guess where the world does kind of revolve around the main player, where as other RPGs you’re more a part of the world and slot into it more naturally.

I have been more impressed with this game though in terms of the dialogue and options that react to what you do, certainly in comparison to previous Bethesda games.

It’s an old formula and a lot of gaming mechanics have moved on, but something about Bethesda games just click for me in a way that no other does, even those top games that I’ve enjoyed like RDR2, Last of Us, God of War etc.

The problem is that the biggest sell of the creation engine, where ever item can have a physical presence in the world, isn’t novel anymore and really holds it back. It’s always been a hugely inefficient engine, I’m perhaps surprised modern hardware still can’t deal with it.

On the one hand I can’t wait for ES6, but on there other perhaps it’s reminded me that there will be some compromises.

All the junk, whilst kind of world building and fun, gets annoying quickly I find. Makes looting a hell of a lot more tiresome.

Just corporate greed I guess. Valves proton is the future, might even be able to run modern console titles soon if the lawsuits don't follow.
I would gladly move to steam OS if game developers had support for it. I would have thought that making a game in proton and porting it to console format might be a good way to go.

Add this to a new StarfieldCustom.ini in your Documents\My Games\Starfield

Code:
[Camera]
fFPWorldFOV=95
fTPWorldFOV=95

Set the FOV to whatever works for you.

I genuinely use Mint on both rigs as my main OS when not using my macbook pro's/mini... I use proton wherever possible, and only tend to use Win10 for SP tbh...
They'll inevitably release some disgusting new win12 soon with dx13 but I imagine like with Control and other games they'll be an option to still use dx12 so I can still stay on win10 - which I still HATE, but yeah lesser of the potential 3 evils...

Sure, it could stop at anytime, MS is making a huge amount of money from it and we still have Stalker 2 and Forza Motorsport incoming. A lot of people, me included, still enjoy Gamepass as a way to discover games they wouldn’t otherwise play.

They’ve added lots of other good titles recently too.

The bigger problem is that MS’s business practices are becoming worse than Sonys. At least Sony titles ship with a range of polished performance options, I’m yet to see that from MS.

Agreed, but it is scummy of Bethesda to sell out to MS like that and deny previous fans of ALL platforms the ability to play it - not at all siding with PS players, just think it's not a nice way to treat your loyal fans, and in general even new comers that want to play even just 1 of your games?

It's always been this way. I don't recall PS5 fans complaining that TLOU and HZD were PS exlcusives. It's also right back to why I don't trust any opinion but my own. That's not to say I don't value someone input and opinion, but more in a "thanks, that sounds like something I will play". I will then go try and make up my own mind.

Well, Microsoft are generating a great deal of revenue from GamePass but it's been quoted by Xbox's Aaron Greenberg that GamePass was "not a big profit play" for Microsoft (admittedly, in 2020). Phil Spencer has stated that GamePass is 'profitable' but how much profit they're making is pretty woolly (to me at least, with some Googling) - again, creating or aquiring content for these services is incredibly expensive.

To anyone who has finished the first playthrough:

Is it me, or is the Starborn ship a bit ****?
I find it's not that great at anything really, other than going fast - it's a pain to get in and out of unless you just fast travel, and it just looks bland as hell inside

It just feels a little twee a lot of the time.

It does doesn't it. The weird thing is that all the main story NPC's treat me like I am some special chosen one, when me as the person playing the game feels nothing. All I have done is touched a piece of metal, watched a cut scene, walked across a barren planet, floated through a ring and now I have Jedi powers.

I'm finding to get from one place to the next it feels like I'm loading way more than anything else. I run to my ship, load to go inside, then load to go to space, then when in space, I don't fly, I just load to the next planet, I click a button to scan the area I want, where I load there and watch a little video of the game flying for me. Then I run to a building, load to enter, then finally I'm at the place.

I feel very lost as a result of this. Where as with skyrim I know, go north and I end up discovering winter fell, head another random direction and I find a cave, etc.

This is what ruins the best thing about Bethesda games for me, the sense of discovery and journey. You don't get the feeling of the journey in this game. You simply load into the box, use your scanner to look for the points of interest walk across a boring proc gen planet for 5 minutes in a straight line until you reach the POI which most likely will not end up being very interesting.

Some of the areas are so small too. I boarded a ship and even the whole ship wasn't one load. There was a smallish area first, which then had anothe loading screen after that!

Your own ship isn't one whole continuous space as you walk up the ramp into the cargo hold and if you want to go into the main cabin you need to go through a loading screen. Because of this it doesn't even make your ship feel like a proper space ship. It makes it feel like a building that is static on the world.
