This ship building is very addictive.

Getting there, added way more engines.

Some of the assets are quite well made and high quality, usually those inside.

Most likely their own engine is more than they can handle.

1080p native, upscalling off, 46fps on a 4080. In that section is running worse than CB77 with path tracing...

And someone likes working almost naked apparently.

Anyway, some good stuff:

- trying to get out some confiscated stuff from the space port in NA reminded me of Deus Ex (first one);
- ship boarding and such "reminded" me of SC and gave an early look on how that one could be in the future;
- convincing someone is made naturally through conversation, not some statistics, me like that (Deus Ex vibes too);
- some skills are nice how they're changed, others not so much.
- fighting pew-pew is better,
- stealth is better,
- ship building,
- conversations seem more natural than other installments or games...
.... and others.

bad:

- PERFORMANCE! Laughable, not bad, LAUGHABLE!
- can't take mods from weapons to keep and use later,
- can't transfer parts from one ship to another,
- space stuff is limited,
- gameplay mechanics not explained well enough,
- graphics (doh!) at times;
- lack of ground vehicles;
- limited, artificial upgrade paths for the ships
- general "RPG concepts" that are used to get away with incomplete development.

It IS better than other Bethesda game, just that... fells like playing a polished alpha. There's a huge difference in quality from one segment to another, parts of the gameplay are very thin and rather concept like than fully fleshed out mechanics and so on.

"Modders will fix it" and "that's Bethesda" made this mess possible. Apologies are good if this was the first game made by a new studio, like NMS, but this has no excuse....

With that said, hopefully can score some more hours tomorrow. Its major luck is that there aren't actually similar games out there yet, so... is easy to like it and dream at greater things...

The interiors do look really good (for the most part). The exterior graphics leave a lot to be desired. The non character NPCs are also pretty rubbish graphics wise.

It really is a mixed bag.

Sounds like Sarah gets about a bit.
She seems easier to gain affinity with than Andreja, 40 hours in and almost nothing from her....I want the achievement!

Back in my day I would have bought her a couple of bottles of diamond white (classy), one slow dance and bobs yer uncle round the back of the burger wagon, not sure the future is for me.

53 Hours and level 29 but I have spent a lot of time surveying planets, and getting the last 2 fauna can sometimes be a major PITA. Spent over 2 hours finishing off one planet tonight

Yeah did try and do that on Kreet when I started but could not find one to 100% it so after that gave up. Can't be asked with that, way more fun things to do for me.

I still scan, but only if it is right there, I don't go out of my way.

Sarah and I

You too? Lol.

So I was looking at the skill point upgrades and not seeing much in there at this point that is exciting must have stuff which is a shame, as that is one of the things that you look forward to when leveling up.

Still wish they used a tweaked Fallout 3 skill system. So much better imo. This is too dumbed down.

I don't know why they dumb down games so much. Look at Baldurs Gate 3, that got great reviews and from what I can see is not dumbed down like this.

I wonder if a mod in the future could fix it? Instant install from me if so. Something to keep an eye on for my next playthrough in a few years time I suppose.

I'm just maxing weight lifting at the moment as i cant stand always running out of space so quickly.

Well done. Looks good. How long did that take?

I guess you need to do a lot of mining via outposts?

If you build a ship builder at your outpost you just buy all the stuff with credits rather than making it, so no mining at all.

Did cost me over 300k credits though.

It's actually not the best ship, because I am using the class C modules you run out of power pretty quickly, there is a skill that increases reactor output at the bottom of one of the trees so I am aiming for that as I am sure it'll be pretty bad ass with more reactor power.

Yeah took me about 3 hours maybe, but a lot of messing with the ship builder I am starting to learn it a bit, it is janky but with a little practise you can sort of understand how to use it and it does get easier.

Yeah, I'm in agreement regarding the skills - I can see what Bethesda was trying to do in making players actually use relevant skills in order to be able to upgrade them, but gatekeeping that further behind skill points (*and* there being 4 levels to each skill) ends up with you gaining skills far slower than seems necessary or fair.

I'm level 25 and I sank 4 ranks into lock picking and a fair bit into Piloting and Ship Building (for access to new ship parts) but I really want to upgrade my space suits and weapons (the space suits in the game in particular are all pretty 'meh' stats-wise) and I can't as I haven't stuck a single point into the science skills (and I need to invest at least four skill points on junk skills to unlock to ones I want).

I think a better system would've been either:

Just completing the challenges gains you the relevant skills.

or:

No challenges, just skill points (and not as gated as it is right now).

Combining the two sucks a lot of the fun out of levelling up unfortunately.

there's not really a level cap, it just slows down over time. When doing new game plus you keep your levels and skills so can keep building on them for quite a long time. I'm not sure if they expected everyone to try and do everything in the first new game

Do the save files just grow to infinity the more you play? Just had a peek at the save folder and you can see the 1mb early saves vs my 20+ hour 8mb saves.
