This has prompted me to consider a gfx card upgrade....currently got a 3070 but have budget to go to a 4070 or 7800xt. Considering it out loud if it would be worth it...

If it’s mainly for this game a 7800 XT would be about 25% - 30% faster at 1080p and 1440p.

Also consider the 6800 XT at EOL prices if your PSU can handle it.

I changed my ram from 2 x 8gb 3000 cl 18 to 4 x8gb 3600 cl 16 and my lows went up to 55 from low 40's. My peak FPS at 1080p high native is now average of 120 FPS. Just need a new case now as my old one can't feed enough air to my graphics card.
And if I get the time tonight I'm going to hunt down some enemy craft to work through some of the spaceship perks.

16GB to 32GB? Almost certainly the bump in memory bandwidth will have helped (in this game as it has been shown that RAM bandwidth improves fps in Creation engine), but mostly because now you are on 32GB so the game is doing less swapping to disk which would have been happening on 16GB as the OS consumes a lot of RAM in the BG anyway. Using my game before texture mods as an example, 7.6GB RAM used by the game alone in Neon, 18.8GB total inc system OS use and BG apps etc.

It's amazing how much the lows can get an uplift if you remove any chance of paging to disk due to having less than 32GB of RAM.

It's all about the memory these days lol. Ram, vram, SSD size. Give it a few years and we will have a single device of unified memory at 30tb just to play a game. Exaggeration I know lol.

Intel have high end CPUs with onboard RAM, 64GB of HBM, and it can run Starfield all by itself :p - Obviously that's a £13,000 CPU, so out of reach for 99% of everyone :D

Blimey, will have to have a look at that. Seems if it works it might be a way forward.

I hear Sadiq Khan wants to extend the ULEz to the whole of the Sol system.

Don't know where this came from. Bitterness I suppose.

My first PC had 4MB of RAM, a 170MB HDD and the cpu had a 8KB cache. In another 20 years we could very well be in the TB range ...
