Lol so just installed and updated to the beta. Continued from last save onboard the Frontier and my crew are all there, right away Sarah has a go at me:
Then 3 seconds later she really wants to talk as if she's no longer moody:
And then, she decides to talk to the instrument panels:
Amazing it's just like real life
... As for the beta, well seems to work, DLAA 3440x1440 max settings is over 100fps basically all the time, but when you go back into settings the DLSS mode shows "Ultra Performance", so it seems it's the label itself which doesn't work correctly even though the actual setting you choose does apply and stick. So if you set DLSS Quality, it shows as Balanced the next time you enter settings, setting DLAA shows Ultra Performance the next time you load. How annoying is that.
CPU and GPU utilisation are vastly improved now, seems this is how it should have been from day 1, even on the frontier with DLSS modded before without FG enabled the fps would dip into the 70s, but now it's over 90/100 and that's with DLAA.
Uninstalled
Only so I can justify that I don't need a 4090 when I see the glorious performance for a last gen game
I played 3 hours at the weekend so now up to 300 hours playtime and.. probably reached peak Starfield now. 6/10. I'll check back with future non-beta patches. Or if they bring in more hats.
Yeah, I'm pretty close to the end now too - I realised that the ah... 'pest control' missions you get from the UC after the Vanguard quest-line *aren't* randomly generated (so far) and send you to a few minor but still interesting POIs so I'm doing those at the moment on my way to level 100 (but you have to go back to Tuala each time so that's a bit of a drag).I played 3 hours at the weekend so now up to 300 hours playtime and.. probably reached peak Starfield now. 6/10. It’s what she/we would have wanted x
Looks good , i take it that's native no dlss ?Benchmark doing stuff around New Atlantis, an area that previously basically lived around 85fps max pre-beta update:
Starfield.exe benchmark completed, 15115 frames rendered in 158.344 s
Average framerate : 95.4 FPS
Minimum framerate : 75.5 FPS
Maximum framerate : 126.8 FPS
1% low framerate : 65.8 FPS
Much much better.
Unrelated, but some things never change
Yeah, it's no Cyberpunk that is for sure. It's still crazy that even whilst the CPU and GPU optimisations are now in place in the beta, actual CPU usage is quite literally insane. Look at this, 3 P cores are topping at 80%, with the overall package at 74% in New Atlantis. There's no hint on what exactly is going on because the city is actually quite empty aside from a bunch of NPCs being all static mostly. None of the vegetation reacts to anything as it's all baked, there is no weather weather cycle or any physics to determine on the CPU.
It's good that performance is now where it should be, but the CPU usage is still insane, I can't see how a lower CPU would be able to supply a high end GPU with enough information to work with at lower resolutions with this observation at hand. The 4090 with 12700K is managing just fine at DLAA
I guess this explains why they noted in the beta update changelog that the update makes more of a difference on high end hardware.
Going by the above, the game uses more system RAM than VRAM, so clearly Bethesda have modified Creation 2 engine in such a way that the CPU memory system is doing a lot more work than perhaps it probably should and then streaming that to VRAM as and when.
