Some great ship build videos for those that are interested:

This game is the typical Skyrim/Fallout Bethesa formula to a T isn't it?

Janky engine where you have to wait for people to finish their scripted conversations before you can interact for example.

Random encounters, but this time it's mostly when you are in your spaceship.

Massively truncated quests.

Oh hey, I'm new in town - Oh the sheriff who is thinking about retiring wants this random new person to deal with a hostage situation at the bank - Yeah that makes perfect sense.

At one point you hear about the tragedy of Londiniom a "city" that was overrun by Terrormorphs and sealed off from the rest of the galaxy.

Later you land at the Forward operating base that is about 300 metres away from the biggest Terrormorph who ever lived. No real sign it was much of a city at all to be honest, more like a tiny spaceport and a small warehouse attached to it.

For all the flying about between star systems, the actual World feels very small. And it still has that thing where you go through a loading screen to enter a tiny shop rather than them being able to integrate those shops in to the open World.

Oh, and space combat feels about as simplistic as Wing Commander Privateer was in 1993.

Pretty much.

Makes me far less excited for the next elder scrolls game simply due to how poor the engine is now. It feels like nothing has changed since skyrim

With all the money they make, it baffles me why they don't bin the engine off and start from scratch or just use UE5 like everyone else.

Creating the volume of content in a game like Starfield/Fallout/Skyrim is hugely expensive and time-consuming and the Creation Engine is highly scriptable (and moddable) - many of the things Bethesda's engine does would have to be implemented from scratch as they simply don't exist in Unreal. Also, Unreal 5.x is a resource hog even without all that stuff - none of the UE5 games we've seen have the persistence or physics that Starfield has.

It's going to be interesting to see how CDPR handle the transition to UE5 - personally I think they're going to struggle to deliver the next Witcher game as UE5 is already a mostly sub-30 FPS, sub-1080p experience on current consoles, even for games that are vastly simpler in scope than Cyberpunk or Starfield.

i am giving bethesda too much credit but i'm hoping they actually respond positively to the feedback and take it massively on board for the next elder scrolls game. i just can't bare to wait another 3/4 years finally for our next elder scrolls game and for it to be as outdated as skyrim with just slight improvements.

Pretty much, I thought Fallout games were really good, and Skyrim although not quite to the same extent.

Fallout 4 one of the best games I've played I can more or less draw the map out from my head, and it's been years since I played it.

Starfield is like some blurry recollection of something that was just pretty dull, and it's only been a few months.

Looks like modders are bouncing off the wagon :o

With that attitude, I doubt he'll be missed. I can't wait for the Creation Kit to drop so I can start making new ship/outpost parts :)

By the way, @mrk - in the short time Starfield has been out, there are 5919 mods on Nexus - which means it'll surpass Cyberpunk (7328) soon :o

It is nice to see the the tide of opinion has turned on Starfield.

I thought I was out of touch with general opinion on the game in the first couple of weeks after it released, thinking it was a boring game with terrible storytelling and pretty average graphics, whilst many in this thread and elsewhere were saying it was a great game.

Do you remember that slide Bethesda put out with all the 10 out of 10's. Laughable.

I will be going into the next Elder Scrolls expecting it to be bad so as not to be disappointed.
