***The Official Starfield Thread*** (As endorsed by TNA)

Elite Dangerous Odyssey is the other space game that actually is very similar to this.

Except Frontier have done a far better job of making it feel like space, they have put the work in to disguise the loadscreens, it also has a unique art style and a great sound scape.

There is a loadscreen in this....
I think Elite's dedication to immersion and 'realism' is commendable, but as a fan of Starfield, I don't think making all the grav jumps take 90 seconds would actually make the game any better (although I'd be all for making the transitions it does have more seamless and less - y'know - 'loading... please wait' :D).

If you're going to make a space game, if what you want is a space game then what you want is that feeling of the vastness of distance, a few minutes of flying from place to place at the speed of light is a part of that, or its just a space themed game for no reason, it could just as easily be any game and there is no point to it being a space game.

That is Starfield, so the Space Kadets don't like it and the RPG crowed don't like it either because it feels completely disjointed, which for both those factions it is.

And space its self is dangerous....

IMO Bethesda looked at Star Citizen, looked at its success and thought that's a great idea, lets do that, and then completely missed the point.....
Sorry but that's nonsense - Bethesda really doesn't care what other publishers are doing and have always gone their own path. They wanted to create a new IP and they'd already done The Elder Scrolls (fantasy) and Fallout (retro-futurism post-apocalypse) and Todd Howard wanted to make a space game.

You are correct however in that Starfield is just a space themed game - it's Fallout with added space-ships and I'm fine with that - YMMV of course.

(BTW, the in-universe description of Grav-Jumping in Starfield is that it's folding space like the Event Horizon - hence the journey is instantaneous).

Then what's the point in it being space themed if space if it and your space ship is just a fade to black loadscreen?

Its like David Braben "Ship interiors are boring" really? i live in my ship, my ship is my home, i care about it, it means something to me, i sleep in its bed to log out, i wake up in its bed to log in, i use the rec room to organise the day with mates, they climb in to physical turrets to fight, they walk around the ship while i'm piloting the ship between planets at the speed of light threatening to pull vital components out of the engine compartment to wind me up......

The real reason he thinks its boring is because you can't have that with loadscreens. Its an excuse for not putting the effort in.

I love my Starfield ship - I spent ages building and re-building it (habs, engines, weapons, reactor, cargo - even choosing my favourite interiors and painting it) - I spent a lot of time deciding what crew I wanted and looking for crew that had the perks I was looking for. I walk around it to inspect it every time I make a major modification. I walk across the starport to board it when I'm going somewhere - I walk to the bridge and hear the various crew members making remarks on my way there. I love watching my ship (and it is, *my ship*) take off, grav-jump and land somewhere new. I love getting into battles on the way to my destination as I shred the enemies 'cause my ship is so damn god-tier. I love seeing its dark silhouette on the horizon in the mist or obscured by a sand-storm as I climb a hill on my way back, burdened down with loot.

I could, of course, choose to fast-travel and miss out on all that - but I don't.

Wondering if anyone know if the Targeting Control System skill is only for missiles, since the description seems to indicate that ? - ** Missile weapons are favored because they can lock onto an enemy ship, but an intimate knowledge of tracking systems can make them even more effective. **

Or is it useful for other weapons as well ? Just don't want to waste a point if it is only for missiles since I don't use those.

OK, so the Shipping Magnate achievement is still not working properly. I have six, count them, SIX, settlements linked by outpost links and nothing, nada. No use of console - not even opened. This achievement just seems to be bugged to ****.

It works for all ship weapons - I wouldn't say it's essential though - drop one point on it to unlock it then spend your other points elsewhere :)

I seem to have it so I guess it's working? There's some achievements I don't have 'cause I was using mods early on.

Can you remember how you did the connections? I'm (perhaps foolishly) using the t'web guides which say A->B, C->D and E->F are all that is needed. Next up I might try adding second links at some to fill in the gabs (B->C etc). But settlement building is ridiculously time-consuming for little reward.

I can't remember exactly what got me the achievement since I built a network of 10 outposts mining and transporting resources to build Vytinium Fuel Rods. I'd imagine it's 5 inter-system (not local) links and they probably all have to be actively sending resources back and forth.

You could try just mining something and transporting it A->B->C->D->E - look for Helium3 planets to keep things simple (this website is useful: https://www.starfieldguide.com/planets/)

Sorry I can't be more specific :(

My understanding is that it needs to be infra-system, not inter-system? I'm using six planets and moons in the Narion system because it's a system where there are enough planets I can build on. Achievements are deffo still working though, because I just got The Family You Choose.

Hmm... I have three planets (in different systems), each of which has two outposts on them - plus another 4 outposts each in a different system.

So, was doing a mission in a new system, and scanning planets at the same time. While doing so got jumped by a couple Spacer ships. Once the fight was over I noticed there suddenly were a crashed ship on the planet, so out of curiosity I thought I check it out, see if it was a spacer ship but ack no, was the same old crashed ship as per usual ! :p

Anyway, while I was there another ship landed, another spacer ship so I went there and took it over. Once out I scanned around and saw another landing place, not to far off so went to investigate. As I got closer I noticed the ships was different from others I seen on the ground. (Putting it in spoilers just incase)

And I got cautious. So sneaking closer and closer I suddenly saw it was this ship.

And was like, what the f is this, a confrontation with the starborn on a planet ? But ack, no such thing. Ship was inaccessible for me so just have to turn around and head back to my own ship. Was just surprised to find that ship on such a remote and inhabitable planet ?!

Also I made a new ship, when I was in the cockpit I noticed a shadow and looked up.. guess that is one way for Vasco to be transported !

Also opted for the side docker and got to admit I do like it.

Also, our friend Vasco seems to enjoy himself on the front row ! :p

Also, the pathing for the NCP is quiet funny. This guy in the protective suit absolutely wanted to be where Percival were standing, tried for several minutes and from different directions before giving up and leaving !

EDIT: Btw, have anyone used this mod and if so, does it work as advertised ? Really get a bit annoyed with how the doors ends up when building a ship ! - https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/6601

I got this achievement on my Series X and just did all the outposts on one planet.

Interesting mod. I find myself in a love/hate relationship with the ship builder. It's pretty restrictive, isn't clear with what the habs look like and I don't know if it's just me being an imbecile but the camera controls are super wacky.

Sometimes I would be building it just fine and the next minute a part is seemingly in another universe and it takes a lot of manipulation to get it anyway near the ship

Exactly that. Then the part you are using is somehow out of the entire grid! Boils my urine. There also doesn't appear to be a way to reset the camera angle?
