*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

Doubt it will be worthless. Even a standard 64gb one would fetch no less than £150 around that time.
I guess it will depend on on how much the SD2 will cost and also how much they discount their stock of new SD1's at the time. Come on Steam, you know you want to do some scrappage deal, I would go for that for definite.

Anyone played with Vsync in Cyberpunk? I originally had it off but I changed to 45fps vsync and 45/90 on the deck and the latency and frame time has dropped massively and feels almost unrealistically smooth. The fps stays at 45 but I’ve read this is a bug. This is with steam deck settings, Xess not FSR and some other things on high and medium crowd.

I am still holding on in my plan to wait for the Steam Deck 2, which will be a day one purchase. By then I imagine the normal Deck will be pretty much worthless so I won't feel bad either giving it away to a family member or just keeping it in a draw with my PSP, cos I am allergic to selling things to randoms due to the fear of scams.
Yeah knowing my luck now that I've ordered the OLED, the deck 2 will be announced next week :D always the case.

Only six months ago, there were quotes from named staff inside Valve which suggested the SD2 isn't coming any time soon. Maybe 2026 at the earliest, as at present there isn't a SoC that provides a generational leap in performance whilst remaining capped at ~15W.

While I'd love a Deck which had enough grunt to handle 2024 & 2025's most demanding releases, there would be uproar if they released SD2 this year

Happy to wait until 2026 now that I have a SteamDeck again. Really happy with it and in no rush.

What I want to see is a nice upgrade to at least a 1080p OLED screen and a nice pump in specs and keeping current pricing.

Not sure a 1080p screen is desirable on such a small screen. You’ll have to start scaling the UI to compensate and you’ll start losing the benefit.

It’s also harder to drive, uses more power and scaling can cause clarity issues.

The current resolution is a good sweet spot.

I predict it will be the same as with the SD1 to SD1-OLED, they will discount the OLED in the store once, maybe twice with a decent gap between, then a final period of prolonged discount. Then 3-4 months later the SD2 will make an appearance. Not saying this is a bad thing, it is just standard practice. With me not especially needing to upgrade to an OLED in the meantime, and I am still thinking that an original SD will not be worth much by the time this happens, for me this means I will be happy to keep my OG SD1 going right up until they release the SD2, and not get involved with the mad rush to sell pre-owned SD1-OLED's that is almost guaranteed to happen round about then. Though if you are happy to pick up a bargain that will be the best time too I'm guessing.

I disagree. To me 1080p is the sweet spot. They already made the screen a bit bigger by having smaller bezels as I recall. Maybe they can go further.

I played some games where the lack of resolution was very apparent. I would be surprised if they go 720p again. It will be 1080p imo. Even the rumoured Nintendo Switch 2 will be 1080p from what I remember reading a while back.

Finally got around to upgrading the SSD. Went with the 1TB WD SN770M in the end (was just about cheaper than the Sabrent at the time). And wow what a difference in speed compared to the stock 256GB Transcend drive:

For some weird reason the cloning process via Konsole took around 5 hours. Not sure if that was due to me having a dock in the middle of the chain, but it did seem much longer than what I saw from others (around an hour).

That's an impressive speed boost. Does the Deck feel different to use, snapper more responsive, etc?

Definitely, it was more than I was expecting. Switching between game mode and desktop mode takes less time now, and bigger games now have shorter loading times. Mainly upgraded for the space but it just makes my Deck feel like brand new. Crazy to think I've had this for nearly 2 years now

Thanks for the info. Makes the upgrade a double win, more space and quicker to use :)

What are everyone's fav games on the deck? I have a few installed but don't play loads, want something that will get me stuck in.
I have recently installed Championship Manager 01/02 and it's brilliant for a few reasons. It's free, if you enjoyed it way back when then the nostalgia and how good it plays is still there but also runs great on deck.

Yes, using protocol experimental.

Have a look at the cm0102 forum.. I hadn't realised there's a whole community dedicated to the game. Was a great source of information and got me up and running. Also has the official game DL.

Back then those type of games were fun. Loved playing them. Not played one in maybe 15 years.

What is with used steam deck pricing?

Pricing on Facebook market place seem to be out to lunch. The original models are listed for more than a certified refurb directly from Valve which comes with a warranty.

CEX are selling them for basically new prices also.

I've noticed the same. Was going to pick one up from CEX but not at new prices.
