*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

I'm on the fence about the steam deck right now. Not just because of the delay either. I was really hyped for the deck up until about a week ago when I started to get thoughts about how pointless it actually is.

I have a large collection of steam games that I bought over the years, yet can't be bothered to play any of them. Why will I suddenly want to play them on the deck? Well suppose I would for a few days before the novelty wears off. My PC is half decent, so maybe I should just buy a better TV for the living room (current one is a 42 inch with medium to high input lag). Probably looking for a 55 inch with low input lag, connect the PC to it and still play from the couch.

I'm just not convinced by these handheld gaming devices anymore and that includes the Switch. Like most people, I don't play in handheld mode much and don't really travel.

Also have to remember that by the time the steam deck is properly released, the technology will be even older.

To add, I think a lot of people have been sucked into the deck due to what generally appears to be relatively good value for money. With an attractive price, people have just thought "why not" rather than "do I actually really need or want this?"

Nah. I have always wanted such a device so I am looking forward to it a lot and a little disappointed that it has been delayed, but it is what I is. Two more months is not that bad, time flies by these days anyway.

I think it will be delayed by a lot more than 2 months though. I was originally in Q2, but now after Q2. Really, I may never get it at all next year. Anyway, I'm not cancelling my reservation and will still probably get it eventually, even though I know it's gonna end up as a dust collector in the end.

I agree with you, and I'll admit while I always eyed the Aya/GPD devices with a degree of interest, I never really had the urge to invest at that price. Wasn't expecting the Steam Deck at all, and really did figure "Why not". And while I'm excited about getting it and disappointed by the delay, there's always been a voice in the back of my head asking what I'm really going to use it for. Gonna be fun finding out...

On the other hand, as a mobile gamer (Switch Lite mostly), while I think it's going to be a great gaming platform with all the benefits a "standard" spec brings, because it's an open standard it's what the community are going to do with it- custom OSs, software etc- that also excites me.

And its a new shiny gadget. I can wait :)

I preordered one, originally for Q2 (expected it to be the end) but I’ll be honest, when push comes to shove, I’ll probably not pull the trigger and buy it.

Not because I can’t afford it, I’m just not really sure when I’d actually get £500 of use out of it before it’s obsolete. They’ll probably be next gen hardware out from Intel, AMD and Nvidia by the time I actually get the opportunity to buy.

i'm also Q2 2022

for me it really does depend on how it launches i still think theres a good chance Feb will only be a soft launch and by that i mean the states getting the majority of the stock with all other regions getting nada or very very limited supply
As a member of the Q2 2022 club will we have to wait until christmas next year to get our reservation order fulfilled after yesterdays announcement i'd say thats a possibility.

Well mine now went from December to Q1 2022. I think they are just playing it safe saying that and unless someone majorly changes I do think they will hit that window as I was quite early getting my order in.

That is one of the reasons why I went with a £349 version. To me there is a big difference between that and £500 when you look at it from that viewpoint. If you are someone that knows you will use it very often like almost daily then the extra money is worth it. But for me I will use it now and then to mainly play my old library of steam games in handheld so not worth the extra money at all.

Plus as you say in like 2-3 years they will likely bring out one with a much better spec that can do 1080p and has an OLED screen or something.

Got excited for a bit when I saw the email from Steam, quickly followed by disappointment. I'm still leaning towards cancelling the order anyway, my slot was always Q2 2022 so by the time it's my turn there should be plenty of reviews to make my decision easier.

I’ve binned my preorder off. Can’t be bothered with waiting even longer for something I didn’t really need in the first place.
I am sure there will be many more impulse buyers like yourself so for people way behind in the queue they may get theirs earlier than they think.

Personally I am just as excited if not more than I was at launch. I mean it is essentially a PC and a handheld gaming device where you can play my hundreds of steam games all in one :D

giving themselves as much time to say we've met our deadline they aren't saying how many though might be just afew hundred

while i haven't cancelled my pre order i've lost a lot of interest its now 50/50 whether i'll go ahead with it.

My excitement has gone down a little also, but I am 100% keeping mine and still very much looking forward to it. Hopefully I get mine late feb early march.

It comes with a carry case right? Thinking of ordering a screen protector from China, will have enough time for it to be delivered that's for sure.

Emails start going out for payment from the 25th February in order of when you reserved, 72 hours to pay from when you receive the email or you lose you space.

Anyone know if UK orders are shipping from within the UK, or are we going to get hammered with import duties?

so they will only just make the Feb deadline they set themselves and the steam deck probably won't be in anyones hand until early march if the above is correct

i doubt any import duties will be charged its the price we signed up 7/8 months ago.

Cool. Hopefully we get it by early March then. Been looking forward to getting my hands on it. My order was originally showing shipped for December, then slipped to February and then changed to Q1.

I will be paying asap so hopefully it gets shipped out quicker. Maybe a small chance I get it in February, but unlikely.

I hope the SteamDeck’s will be in the UK and be ready to be shipped out for next day delivery once they start shipping.
