*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

My order still showing after Q2 for the top end one. Hopefully there will be some cancelations and i'll get bumped up and get it earlier but looking like 2nd half of the year, assuming they can even fulfil the earlier preorders.

ditto mine is Q2 2022 also

i got errors while ordering then got the account frozen for 30+minutes for too many attempted purchases then after finally doing a successful purchase without it crashing i was told i had to re confirm my purchase as there was an error
valve still haven't apologised to customers about the pre order chaos.

Maybe this will encourage them to fix the garbage steam store.

why is "Top sellers" and "Popular Upcoming" two different categories when top sellers is full of pre orders

the whole stores a huge pile of steaming garbage to navigate there's too many crap garbage cash ins and early access crap that will never be a finished game cluttering up the store.

if you walked into a shop and it was like that it's either a charity shop and your fine to look for bargains or you just walk straight out because it's too much effort.

I know not exactly the correct thread but couldn't seem a proper steam thread to rant in

Maybe buy a Xbox and be done with it mate. I hear PlayStation will be gone in a few years and Steam with a store like you describe won't last much longer :p:D

Thing is PlayStation 5 is selling well. I have not looked at Sony's financials, but my understanding is PlayStation is one of their more profitable parts.

I mean think about, what are consoles these days? They are essentially PC's using a SOC. Not like they need to spend **** loads of money on R&D and development I would imagine (could be wrong).

As for steam, never had an issue with the store myself.

Popped a pre-order in today.

Looking forward more to the modding/alternative uses for this. Not to mention emulators, and seeing how it fairs as an ultra portable LAN box.

They learnt their lesson from the PS3; basically made it impossible for them to allow legacy support on the PS4. Must be a sizeable cost saving.

It is quite cluttered with shovelware but when I was browsing my discovery queue to complete some challenge during the sale or whatever I'd just click on the ignore button on anything that looked terrible and over a relatively short space of time I just don't see all of that junk anymore (I guess it has started just not showing me things that match the tags of things that I consistently ignore anyway)

Some people just still seem to have a chip on their shoulder about Steam even after all these years

Not to be a downer or anything, but isn't the GPU in this going to be a bit pants?

I just feel like for the money the top end with the decent storage costs, you may as well spend a bit more and get a new laptop with a 3060 in it or something. Then you have something vastly more useful for other things too.

I do kind of like the idea of it, but just wish it was a bit more powerful.

(disclaimer: I haven't preordered one)... I think it's the ultra portability of this that appeals as well as the dedicated nature of it (vs a full laptop)

As to the GPU horsepower, I'm not sure it's really meant to be used to play the most graphically intensive games, and either way would many people want to? It's a bit like a TV show or movie that is specifically touted to have incredible visuals (e.g. Mandalorian or something) - you could watch it on your tiny little phone screen if you wanted, but you would probably prefer to watch something so spectacular on your large living room TV with sound system attached.

No to me this is a system for being able to play smaller indie titles that are more about gameplay than graphics on-the-go/toilet

Laptop is not a handheld. Handheld is much more comfortable, convenient, usable and portable. So yes, the GPU in it is weaker. But it also only has to drive 800p screen. It will be fine. It will run Kingdom Come and Cyberpunk at playable framerate.

Haven't checked but I think mine might be for after Q2 now, which isn't too bad as I still haven't got all the money together for it, I could pay for it if it asked for it on the 25th as I have savings, but I'd rather not use that if it could be avoided.

I do want one of these a bit but would I use it. I'm getting a gaming laptop and I have a desktop. I don't have a console either. Need to get into using a controller more first. If I get into a game or two. Perhaps halo.

I have a gaming laptop. I hardly use it for gaming. But I will be using the Steam Deck a lot more.

i bought a gaming laptop last year but i don't do much gaming on it its mostly work and other stuff since i work from home

i'm undecided on the steam deck i'll probably more than likely going to get it but i'm also going to see how the launch goes what the initial reviews are like and general response by people who actually own one.
