*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

There was a lot of hype for this thing when it was first announced, and probably still is as it's getting ready for release, but I still think it's gonna end up as a dust collector sooner rather than later. PC games don't always scale well to such small screens and you lose the immersion you'd get with a large monitor or TV. I think a lot of people will be using this for emulation with Dreamcast, PSP, GameCube, Wii, Wii U and PS2 to be top performing. PS3 probably not so much apart from lesser demanding titles. It's the CPU that lets the Deck down for the harder to emulate systems.

Thing that bothers me though is the ergonomics, weight and run time after fully charged. Oh well, we'll be seeing what this is really like back end of February once the first batch YouTubers review.

Main reason I will be getting this.

Also to play those indie games which are not available on other platforms, such as Castle in the Clouds DX! :D

It certainly won't be for everyone, that's for sure. But there are loads of games that would work perfectly on it. I am not buying it to play latest triple a games on it for example. Though it is a bonus that it can if I want to.

Oh for sure. Like my GPD devices they literally come out whenever I go on holiday there's just little reason to use them outside of this (switch ofc has dedicated games so very different in that regards)

I'd imagine most will get it just for the price. After all these devices have been around for years at x2/x3 the cost and received little attention outside of enthusists. But yes at the end of the day its frivolous tech that will be stuck in a box most of the year.

Same as me. Personally if it runs decent driving sims, such as Automobilista or Simbin games I will be over the moon. Not really bothered about running the latest versions, if it run Race 07 I'll be happy.

Also experimenting on trying gamers from my Steam catalogue is a big pull. I cant wait.

But a sim on the steam deck? Can it be enjoyable really?

@Cavallino I regularly race sims using a pad and it works well. Whilst I can set up a wheel, using my PC for work, means its a lot of faff setting up and removing the wheel.

Pad racing is never going to be as good as wheel. For the Steam Deck, as long as you can configure the pads to mimic an Xbox controller pad it should work fine (at least I hope so!)

Really? Using a pad? Id be interested if you could let me know what pad you use and how you can control throttle/braking?

Genuinely intrigued by this (I recently sold my wheel setup purely because of time - but I would like to race every once in a while, if I can do it on a pad that would be great).

Thanks @Ninco!

I think the other fantastic use for it is if you want to go to a LAN but don't want to drag your main rig to a LAN hall... just shove this in a backpack and take any old monitor to dock it to (or rent a monitor at the event)
