there are people who are playing the game without dual core cpu's and their not getting crashs.

i have 3.2ghz and the recommended is 3GHZ so that isnt the problem.

any other things to try out people?

When you get new components. Do a fresh install of XP.

hmmm i just had a 1v1 on skirmish and it didnt crash, seems like the new graphics card and ram is going to help a lot. think i'm ganna wipe the system tomorrow and start fresh for the new stuff.

Having two monitors can be excellent.

The secondary monitor can be left at full zoom sp you can see the entire map. The primary monitor can be split into two maps so you cna watch two parts of the map at the same time, then if you really wanted you could have the small map in the UI, so you can have 4 maps on the go if you really wanted hehe.

My SupCom runs absolutely and horrifically slow and I thought my spec (see sig) would have performed a little better than what it's currently doing. After about 5 minutes the game slows down to (according to Fraps) 2 to 3 FPS at the most. When I run SupCom with the /nosound shortcut option it goes to about 8 to 10 FPS. This is at 1920x1200, any significant settings set to medium and I'm using a Creative X-Fi. The game I'm trying is a skirmish between me and 3 other AI players. Right enough my non-overclocked 1.86Ghz C2D processor is going full pelt according to task manager but surely it shouldn't bring my system to its knees?
And when the sound is on there are all sorts of crackles, pops and hisses coming from the game. Something's obviously up between the X-Fi and this game.

No idea why it should be running so slow I've not got any issues with sound and I'm on a Xifi too, the specs of your pc should be running it dead smooth even on pretty high settings.
Are all your drivers up to date?

thats a pretty high res, what graphic settings? my x-fi runs perfect with supcom aswell, no problems with sound etc. With 3 AIs you are really putting that processor under strain, especially at a high res if you're running graphics fairly high. If an overclock is possible its highly recommended.

With decent ram, if the chip permits. isnt always the case.

Is there a reason you havnt overclocked though? Even an extra 500mhz will show an increase in performance..

well this is a pretty class game, it actually works properly with SLI  which is suprising, cause nothing seems to like SLI much, problems are, i need more, more units, more weapons, more devestation, hopefully it'll be like the 'god' game before it TA and they'll go mad and release loads of units in an addon pack, hovercrafts and stuff :D good engine though feels abit unresponsive at times, runs reasonbly as well, haven't noticed much slowdown on anything except the huge maps with loads of opponants, i give it 8/10 :)

im actualy glad i dont have a large monitor just so that i dont have such terrible frame rate drops. running ona 17" is just fine for me tbh.

great game, loving it so far, got 2 close mates into it and one was up until 04:30 this morning playing lol. i have to stay up tonight to get into a night shift pattern so quess what i am going to be playing till 8 in the morning :D

Well I never overclocked the processor because I never had a reason to do so. The vast majority of time my machine is used for business purposes but also, the thing was fast enough without going any further. But I spent about 10 minutes reading the overclocking subforum here and about 15 minutes experimenting and I brought it right up to 2.87 GHz without much of a fuss. It's stupid how much these things overclock. And yes I did notice a difference in-game :)

After playing for half an hour or so on the aforementioned 20km x 20km map with 3 AI's though, the game slows down again. If I save the game, close SupCom, open it again and reload the savegame, it gives it a bit of a boost in speed. Gives me the impression that there's a bit of a leak in the code or something along those lines? I don't know. Anyway I'm thinking of stopping that game and playing a different map because it's ridiculously big.

First time I've seen a game max out both cores of a processor constantly and not depend on the graphics card which is interesting. I checked the task manager and the game just never lets go - 100% CPU usage all the time. If I lower my graphics settings I still get the same rate of slowdown as on high graphics.

Some poorly coded games use 100% cpu all the time regardless of what they are doing (older versions of football/championship manager being a good example).
Maybe check what the usage is like in the menus before starting a game.

congratulations on the overclock.
Sounds like a resource leak to me aswell. Hmm. try with a smaller map & 3 ai see what happens?

Running well here on 3800x2 2.4ghz. 1024x768 on high settings.

Does anyone else find the omni sensor array causes a fair bit of slowdown? Switching it off gives a decent fps boost on my system. The only difference i can see having it on would make would be drawing extra squares on the map. Surprising it makes so much difference.
