The *Official* Supreme Commander Thread

I absolutely love Supreme Commander, BUT...

It lags so much it's not worth playing! When i get around 200+ units on the sceen my game comes almost to a standstill, probably down to around 15fps or something poor.

My Rig is:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2GB RAM
ATI X1950 512MB

Any idea's?

How about an x2-4600?

Should be fine i think, not as grand as a c2d but the second core should help a lot, somone here will be able to confirm. I'm sure i've seen peeps with X2's in this thread.

Dont know about X2 but my rig is the same as yours bar i have a C2D@3200 but i have a x1800xt card and i play at 1920x1200 and it rarely slows + i play without fog of war in AI skirmishes so its even heavier on the system as it has to draw everything.

Im playing in 800x600 with most details on low and it still lags like a bitch :(

I shall have to upgrade to a C2D and DDR2 then :)

If your on socket 939 atm you might aswell get a X2 3800 or 4400 and over clock it abit. I have a 3800X2 @ 2.3Ghz and simelar specs to you and runs pretty smooth untill you decided to attack with a 100 bot army  but doesnt slow down too bad.

i run supreme commander on X2 at 2.8Ghz and im 99% positive it runs better than my best mates E6600 (2.4Ghz), though he has X1950XTX and i have 8800GTS so that could be a difference, im sure enough its just dual-core in general this game likes, rather than 'get conroe' just simply get dual-core ;)

A X2 is around 300mhz down on a c2d, so if for example your m8 over clocked his too 2.5 you would be on the same performance cpu wise but of course he could easily hit 3.2 on that i would think so he would whip your X2, but of course you got a better gfx card put your card in his over clocked c2d and it will run better.

o.O

As far as i'm aware, well at least this used to be the case...an AMD 'Mhz' can't be compared to an Intel 'Mhz'...for example my Winchester 3500+ or something like 2.2Ghz whereas my Sony is a P4 2.66Ghz...and my Winchester destroys it.

:o ... 3500+ means equivelant to p4 3500mhz... (thus why its called its 'performance rating')

Core 2 due is a completely different matter mind, i wouldn't like to state that 'a 2.7ghz x2 is the equivelant to a c2d @ 2.4ghz (e6600... ie 300mhz less).. i'm sure superPI would completely tare that apart, but when ever have cpu's been compared purely on 1 program ;)

My mate has an x2 3ghz pc, and my e6600 (@stock for testing in this case...) still beats his... although i must admit most tests are pretty close (mainly cpu score in 3dmark05/06, superpi, 3dm01se, sup com :D)

I woulda, but my Supcom is screwed up at the moment

The GPG Client wont start up, and now it wont uninstall...

Already tried a fresh re-install and still no ball game :(

indeed, but it wouldn't be LOADS faster, the difference is smaller than people make it out to be, this X2 does 3.0Ghz, might do 3.1 im not sure, it was nice and stable at 2.8Ghz with my CNPS-9500, upgrade to watercooling and haven't touched it since
