*** The Official Tribes: Ascend Thread! ***

Finally, I dont see any anti-cheat program for Tribes? How do they stop people abusing it?

Tribes uses its own made anti-cheat, no one knows the details regarding how it works, but honestly.. I've never seen a hacker in this game.

Due to inheritance, and projectile based weapons using an aimbot is extremely hard to do, the maths required to do that sort of thing is no easy task. Not to mention that even if an aimbot is able to predict where a player will be in order to connect the shot, that doesn't count for them jetting, changing direction, speeding up, slowing down etc.

So if you do see people using aimbots on this game they'll stick to using weapons like Shotguns, hitscan pistols and sniper rifles.

The most notorious aimbot coder has given up on Tribes Ascend, so that's a relief for us all.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it, games will always have cheaters, thankfully Tribes is under the radar for cheaters.

As above, if you are loving this game, then it's so much better if someone good can explain it to you. If not I think I'd still be running statics on dry dock lol.
My experience sounds very similar to yours Buffet. I have spent almost 80% of my time as path however I don’t have the consistency for competition.

To be honest I have had allot more fun as soldier on roaming defence or as offense. Don't get me wrong, being a good pathfinder makes you a better defender however in competitive games you need to be robotic as a pathfinder; consistently hitting routes, calling out exact times. This takes ALLOT of skill and practice.
So In summary if I was to spend my money again, I would focus on unlocking the soldier and pathfinder. If you have a talent for sniping then keep with it, as teams are always looking for a good sniper.

Its not that I am a good sniper, I am just used to an instant hit weapon that I'm pretty good at using on moving targets whilst I am moving and also making reaction shots. As such if theres a weapon that behaves close to a rail in Tribes, I should hopefully pick it up quicker. However I dont really know enough about Tribes hitscan yet. I need to recalibrate my entire aiming technique because as previous posts have highlighted my aiming techniquie is probably all wrong to start with.

One of the things in Q3 which allows such reactive shots is the ability to colour code the enemy and their ordinance. For instance on Q3 all of my enemy models are bright green. So as soon as I see green I can respond to it. Can you use custom enemy colours in Tribes?

We can't colour models, but we do get red chevrons above enemies heads, which slightly differs in shape depending on which type of Armor the player is wearing Light, Medium or Heavy for example.

lol have you guys tried TDM? I just had a quick go. Grabbed the flag at the start and held it until the end of the round with x37 flag held medals lol. Quite fun skiing round and round the arena with a whole team chasing you and failing :p Overall the modes pretty nooby though.

Mic arrived yet?

You guys ever in need of people to make up numbers for scrims/pugs etc? I'm pretty new to it, so I'm not great at any particular role but I'm sure I'll improve quickly if playing with people that know what they're doing.

If so I'll get on mumble. Playing on public servers only gets you so far in terms of skill/fun.

Yea get on mumble tonight and jump in a pug with us.

Slayer the only weapons like the original rail gun is the sniper rifle or the phase rifle also for the sentinel is like the original laser rifle.

Can't tonight unfortunately :( will be on a fair bit over the weekend though. I'll hop on soon.

Problem is I can never be a regular contributor these days, until I can convince my gf to get into gaming :p Can usually get on for a little while most nights though

i bought a big pack of gold to unlock stuff, as i like virety :)
still got plenty of stuff to unlock through xp tho :x, i did buy the 90day booster

decided to unlock "mechanic" thinking of using it on infiltrator so i can take out turrets :)

Right, just started playing this tonight, a few questions:

How demanding on hardware are people finding this game? I'm getting lower framerates than I'd expect for the graphics - 40fps or so on medium (I think) at 1080p with a [email protected] and a GTX570.

Haven't unlocked sentinel yet, but I'm curious how they've balanced the sniper rifles given that I understand they're hitscan? Leading your shots seems to be key with the weapons I've tried so far.

Had a couple of other questions, can't remember them now :D

Most of us here have unlocked things with gold. Some call it pay to win but 99% of the time I use pathfinder anyway and can win in a pub without any fancy weapons either. The guys shouting pay to win are nubs who are getting owned by higher skilled players.

There has been 1 instance only where I've found it's pay 2 win and that is a Jug with the X1 will beat a Jug with the MKX or MKD 100% of the time. The disc Jug simply cannot win in that duel. Other than that, tis mostly nabs whining as you say.

I've seen one aimbotter in the game so far and the whole server called him out on it. He was playing a DMB with near 100% of shots hitting no matter the distance, direction or speed, so it seems inheritence and directional values have been cracked.

Thanks for the help last night guys. I get paid next friday so I think I am going to drop in some gold for unlocks. I fancy a go at sniper defence. WP in the pugs btw, was good to see how it works in a proper game and not a pub.

I should be on again tonight so will most likely see you on mumble.

Also, with regard to private servers, how does that work? Can you set up tribes on any linux based server or does it have to be done through Hirez/tribes?

Cheers

No worries mate. Private servers can only be rented using gold.

Your sentinel load out I would use is:

Phase rifle
Falcon
Energy recharge pack
Either of the claymoors
Ultra capacitor
rage

Just upgrade items by using them. Stick claymoors in your base/flag stand and wait for cappers. One of the important job of the sniper is to spot enemy cappers as there inbound for your flag. You will learn with experience the routes commonly used and keep an eye on them as your team relies on you a lot for an early warning. Sniping on pubs is normally pretty easy but in comp games you are targeted by the enemy offence and the cappers run harder to spot faster routes.
