Iam using Vista 64 and coretemp generates errors only is there another alternative ?

Vertigo mine and your results vary greatly, mine seems to run a lot better, what were the game settings and what gfx hardware are you on?

BFG 8800GTS 640MB OC at stock. Might be that your faster gfx hardware is making the CPU even more of a bottleneck and thus it "breathes" more at 4Ghz.

Chance's are the 8400 will have on average a lower VID due to running a slightly low frequency at stock, thus requiring less start-up vcore.

I don’t think comparing these two cpus VIDs will give you a valid indication.

yes under load. That will be my the settings for games.

also the bios/coretemp isn't working properly at the moment with wolfdales. My temps are the same from stock voltage to all the way up to 4.4Ghz with 1.46v

No, Orthos'ing at 1.425v at the moment, sure it go lower but I will take it down a notch each day and see how low I can get it.

Best 8500 VID I have seen so far is 1.0500

hope as the chip matures, the Vid's will come down, as the q6600 did.

Demon, no offense but if this screenie is to represent temps under load, surely you need to run Orthos for a bit longer. I reckon on a few minutes to get up to max load temp not 4 seconds!!! Apologies if I have misread it.

Already ran Orthos for 10+ hrs Kirth but I forgot to get a screenie, hence why I am doing it again

As far as temps go, 56c full Orthos load in quite a hot room.
