***The Official Wolfdale 8200/8400/8500 Overclocking Thread ***

point me to where I claimed it with screenies just for easy in his "early results thread" then?

Tempted to get one? You mean a life, dog? house? friends? Be specific or people might think you are trying to bend the truth.

Your 4.6ghz is doable so you say....All i ask is you make it seeable too:p

One I refer to being a wolfdale CPU.

:)

Did your crack 12hrs?

As i said in my post, "there is probably more in it yet". So 12hrs or 24hrs runs are a waste of time for the moment. When i clock i go for 8hr runs until i'm at the cpu's limit, once there i then go for a 24hr run. 12hr runs in my opinion are no test of long term stability. As this is a clock in progress you'll get an 8hr run, until i'm happy that i'm at my final cpu speed. For someone that has done nothing but rubbish dual cores (for the love of your precious quad) i really don't know what it is that you really add to this thread, apart from grief and ill feeling.

Anyway, screenie below is a completed 8hr run. The reason for the 3d01 run, is that at DIY Street and DFI club it's a requirement for an entry into the OCDB. And yes easyrider, the 3d01 run was done while Orthos was running.

lol 3dmark01 score just look silly now, I remember when I benched my GF4 Ti4600 and got a pretty impressive 9k 6yrs ago

Nice clock m8. You are on phase aren't you, so temps I guess are not an issue. When you do get to your final clock speed, would you mind including a screen shot of your coretemps please?

Why did you make this completely irrelevant post? Both of them werew going at it, but i would advise you to stay out of it incase you get the same thing as them.

Sorry, I was just venting at having to wade through the constant bickering to get to the real point of the thread, the clocks. I want to see what they are capable of and give some recognition to those that are taking the time to post their results.

So was your linked run a suicide run? Is 4470mhz on water the max your chip will achieve? Nice clock regardless. What are you going to settle on 24/7?

Click the link, it's 4.75Ghz... Thats the max i've seen with this chip, but tbh I hate the damn thing and I will be getting shot of it as soon as possible really just not a stable chip in general :(

Back again. 4.2ghz ran prime all last night so that's stable too. Now priming at 4.4Ghz and been going for 2.5hours so far. Just need to get past the magic 3.5 hour point when it usually falls over. If this is still going tonight i will post a screenie of 8Hours+ prime along with temps and my settings. Got into windows at 4.6Ghz this morning but it was not prime stable at all. Fell over straight away. It needs more voltage but i am not sure what is safe with an E8500 on water. It's currently at 1.475v and temps are 51 degrees on both cores while running prime.

Sasso, how are you getting on?

You are the first that I've read about to say they hate the wolfdale :) Was it stability at reasonable volts that was your beef?

I'm hoping so, considering i got my 6750 for just over £110, I don't think they are worth almost double (E8500) for ~1Ghz more when I would likely be gpu limited anyway.

Thanks :D. I can't give you a core temp screenie, because core temp dos'nt work under phase. But a look here shows evap and cpu temps. Also a look here gives a comprehensive breakdown of the whole clock.

Kitfit1
Nice clock.

Will you be running that chip on air at some point.
Wondering how much extra stable mhz is down to the low temps on phase.

I'm just being curious as phase is something i am tempted to invest in.

No it won't be going on air anytime soon i'm afraid. When Nehelam is released it will go in Mrs Kitfit's rig on air, but that will be at stock. As a rule phase will give you an extra 300mhz to 400mhz over air. As an example my E6600 was running 24hr Prime stable at 4.24ghz under phase, most peeps struggled to get the same chip 24hr Prime stable at 3.8ghz.

yup, that’s pretty much what I’ve observed. General rule of thumb is 200MHz~ extra for watercooling over air and another 200MHz over water with a single stage phase setup and a bit more with cascades. Would go so far as to say quads benefit a little more.

Yes, to start with under normal setting it wouldnt boot at all at stock settings by setting them manually, was a complete PITA :(

Does very wierd things TBH, like the other night while benching, did a 32m pi run @ 4465Mhz, was fine, then played CSS for a while... Then left PC for about 20 mins, came back went on Tinternet, & it restarted for no reason whatsoever... & It's done that 3 or 4 times now, just random restarts even @ low settings like 3.8ghz @ 1.35vcore

Latest bios etc, all supported... Meh to Wolfdale
