***The Official Wolfdale 8200/8400/8500 Overclocking Thread ***

Thanks m8

Sorry not sure which is the batch number so posted both.

Found it a chore just to get the VC right on my E8500 at stock speeds. I do have some Vdroop on the commando though.

what's the safest VC that can be used on a E8500 with air cooling? I'm using a Zalman CNPS9700 giving idle temp of 30 with a 3.81OC VC 1.18 at the moment.

I would not worry with about 1.45v on good Air.

You dont need it OC'd 24/7 anyhow for surfing etc.

Cheers, just been running stable at 4g with the VC in vista reading 1.27v while playing cod4 for 4hours with temps in the low 40's when I alt tabbed to desktop. Just priming to do.

I was looking at buying one of these but after reading this thread I see that a lot of very experienced people are having difficulties getting decent stable oc's.
It appears that it's not worth me getting one atm, especially with me being such a noob at overclocking.

Should I wait till a new batch comes out or go buy a Q6600?

I've just ordered a E8500 from ocuk as there were 2 in stock, but I'm a little concerned that so many people or struggling to get good overclocks stable. Has anyone tried overclocking one of these on a GA-P35-DS3R (F6 bios).

Just flash your board to the latest bios and give it a shot. I’m sure it will be a big improvement over your e2200.

Well i was actually waiting for the quads to come out, but since there multiplers are so low i decided to go this route till better quads come out. Mainly because i'm sick of UT3's fps dropping to 25-30 for brief moments making it unplayable. I know this game does take advantage of quads a little not fully, but i've read that the cache makes a big difference on this game too.

Anyone else having trouble with 3dmark06 when OC the E8500? OK untill going past 4g but dos'nt matter what VC is applied when trying to test at 4.3g but have played another 3hours of Cod4 this afternoob with no problems at all. Temps where reading under 50c when alt tab to check after an hours gaming.

Have reading on my desktop VC1.4v NB1.46v DDR2.3v

Are temperature differences normal for E8400?
Core 0 is 42-44 degrees and Core 1 is 29-30 degrees under heavy load at 1.32 V.
One final note. CoreTemp overestimates the temp. a lot and CPUz cannot find the Vcore so I insist everyone should use Speedfan.

over 10c difference is quite a bit really

Temp corrected speedfan will be fine, chances are coretemp is correct though.
