***The Official Wolfdale 8200/8400/8500 Overclocking Thread ***

Crank the volts up a bit more, you are fine upto 1.4V.

i've cranked the volts up to 1.375 in the bios and CPU-Z reads them as topping out at 1.360

I've run Prime but it failed after 36mins!!!!
What would make this fail.

The ram is set at 2.16v @ 1015mhz
CPU @ 1.375

is it just a case of upping the cpu to 1.385 etc

i thought 1.4v was the cut off for these E8400 and some people are even hitting 4ghz on just over stock? Am i restricted by my motherboard?

one question.

when overclocking is it best to leave the ram/cpu ratio at 1.1???

will this allow me to lower my cpu clock or just make it more stable???
i had mine set at 1:2.4 = 1015mhz
should i stick to this and just up the cpu volts one step at a time or leave it at 1.1

HeX why didn't you wait for the new E0 revision out of interest?

Wanted a chip now, the E0 8500's won't be out for a while yet as old stock will need to be cleared (i'd imagine).

And I didn't want to pay the £60+ extra for an E8600.

When the E0 E8500's come out I might be tempted to change, but more than likely i'll just grab an E0 Q9550 instead when the time comes.

4.2Ghz is damn quick anyway :D

490fsb solid now :D

Time to go for the magic 500 :D

Cos I know the rest of the system can do those settings fine, so just giving the CPU a quick stability test :) I find if it's going to fail it's usually within the first hour. So what I do is give it hour long tests, if it passes an hour I work on the next step til that passes an hour as well, then when I reach a point I want to be at I give it the full 8hr blend :)

Just been priming at 500 x 8.5 for 4.25Ghz and it failed at 51mins.

Sooooo clooooose to stable.

(500 x 8.5 is my goal :D)

just bump up the voltage 1 notch. People are so paranoid about vcore on these 45nm chips its ridiculous. Yes, they are more sensitive than the 65nm but there isn't some magic tipping point at 1.4 or even 1.45v where its life will suddenly end.

Personally, I'm entirely happy to run 1.45v daily 24/7.

Currently my 24/7 clock on my Xeon E3110 is 4.23ghz @ 1.42v

Looks like Ill be waiting for my TRUE to lap anyway

Managed to get my Q6600 to over 4ghz under water in the past so this should be fun, just a shame it isn't a little lower VID
